CARBON FIBRE SIDE PODS **(ARRIVED)** Pictures!!

I'm interested...would love to see pics of the carbon pods fitted to James' black (err, sorry, brown) Mk2.

Can they make other carbon parts if there was sufficient interest? Random ideas include - wing mirrors (or just the outer shells), front fog light surrounds, tailgate badges (Renault, Sport, Clio, V6), dash mouldings, centre console...

I've emailed MVS to confirm our interest and will arrange to get Mike's pods to them.

I've also enquired about Carbon door cards but with a view to a minimalist lightweight version.

Can't say they appeal to me - they look very tacked on...

Door cards could be interesting...Would like to see a design that has a simple handle, no window switches and perhaps a cord or something to activate the lock mechanism.

They look great on that silver MK1.

One of mine fell off at at 130 a few weeks ago. Basically, City Renault in London didn't fit it back properly after replacing the side pod fan. Denied it was anything to do with them of course but in the end have agreed to give me a new one but not spray and fit it.

If for some reason It doesn't happen then I am in for a pair. All that is holding me back is that the reason I wanted a silver car was so that the side pods matched... but carbon ones look good and would be cheaper than the original parts (and not need painting!). Can they be sprayed?

Are the carbon side pods in production now?

I have collected the pods from MikeT (thanks) that are to be used for the mould.

I emailed MVS a few days ago and again last night but haven't yet had a reply to either so will be chasing again on Weds (my day off) to get an address to send the pods to and to get them into production.......

more news as and when I hear anything............

Had a reply from MVS.
I'm sending the pods off now that I have an address and they will begin with the moulds. They will make one set firstly and send them to me for inspection and then will take orders from all of you who are interested.
As you can understand they are busy people but expect to produce the first set in about 1-2 weeks..........

I'm sure the pods will be fine Steve............I don't anticipate each of you having to wait 1-2 weeks in turn. I believe once the first set are approved they can produce a batch much quicker.

Once you have a mould you just slap the f/g or c/f on with a bit of glue and your laughing ;-)

Or is that where I go wrong ?

By the way a friend of mine also make carbon fibre car parts as a sideline. He did have a site but I need to find it again.

His technique is to take an existing car part and add a carbon fibre surface to it - this could be done with side pods too. He also can replicate car parts in carbon fibre by using the original part to make a mould and then use this to build duplicates. This replication technique is small scale though like dash trim, handles, engine parts etc. rather than full panels.

I will see if he can do anything for the Vee, if so, I will report back.

...if you can ask you mate about some of the smaller parts I'd be keen to hear from him e.g. wing mirror shells, dash mouldings, centre console.

Tim, I should know this week if I will need a pair. One of mine fell off as the dealer didn't bolt it on properly and are refusing to accept responsibility. Going to have a go at getting one on the bodywork claim I have going through... if I can't manage it then I want some.

Does carbon fibre spray up OK?
