Car inspiration

Right oh.

I'm after a family hack. Medium sized car that will run the family (wife/myself/12 wk baby/2 spaniels) about on trips round the UK and be the wife's daily driver for shop runs and to her work 6 miles away.

Budget £2k.

Don't want a diesel due to milage being covered and cost of parts. Although high 30s mpg on a run would be good.

Either an estate or hatchback for prams, travel cots, dogs and luggage etc.

As modern and reliable as possible.

Nothing that would mean galactic milage although I'm sensible and judge cars on their individual merit and condition.

Sorts of things I've thought of already and then lost interest:

- Saab 9-3 2.0t saloon or Wagon c2005
- Passat 2.0 fsi saloon c2006
- Mazda 6 Tamura 2.0 c2007
- Mondeo?
- Vectra?
......

Looking for inspiration so if anyone has any ideas fire them over

I have a Volvo S60 D5, its fantastic for what you describe but youd want a V70 D5 for the space in the back.

Didn't want a diesel though!

I'd considered the D5 options but it's a bit too big for my wife to handle (read park). She managed to pull most of the front bumper off my old 9-3 Aero the first time she took it out without me and that was just getting off our drive!

I mentioned a 9-5 as I had an Aero when we first met and whilst she really liked it to passenger in, she's made it clear that's too big for her. I'd say the V70 is the same class.

She was ok in a Mazda 6 she had through work once.

Don't ask me how this all works because if you can drive then you should be able to drive any car within reason and I wouldn't consider a A6/E class/ V70/9-5/ 5 series particularly big cars but she's just not up for them.

They are nice motors and sound the part but as you've already said, mpg wouldn't work for us.

That's almost as bad as the S6 I had and that was a 4.2!

Fifty quid?

Can you do 40? I'll give you it in shiny pounds coins to take it away

It's got a bit of a chequered past this one. Previous owner developed some of the software for Hilton Tuning..it was running up to about 450 brake with a Cavalli turbo but now back to just about standard

:ag:

Its a deal

Its a steal

Its sale of the f*cking century...

And it doesn't help my quest to find an easily parkable, well built, fast, good handling, comfortable, fully kitted, nice sounding, new, cheap to maintain, 150mpg, low insurance group, zero RFL, tardis interior'd, two grand special!!!!
