cam cover bolts..

G

Guest

have been burning a bit of oil recently and after some investigating foud out that there were 2 bolts missing from the middle of the rocker cover and oil was leaking down to the spark plugs,

decided to replace all the middle 5 while I'm at it but the bolts that came were different to the 3 than are in now,

ther are different bolts but similar sizes, the renault part number is 77 03 001 661. I think they'll be fine but wanted to check to see what you guys thought first

excuse the tatty plastics and leads, work in progress... B and C are missing

all help appreciated, thanks TC

hi mate the second pic, the bolt to the left is a plastic cover bolt do not use for the cam cover itself. the bolts on the right won't do the job. u see the smooth bit that will hit the end of the hole before it pulls up. u need to use normal 10mm bolts, remove a cam cover bolt and find any around the same lentgh. the proper cam bolts are longer than them anyway. i have loads lying around somewhere.

so the 2 that are missing should be the same as the 8 around the outside?

and the 3 holding the plastic on are fine to leave in?

Thanks TC

yeah... mite be worth tanking the tray and seeing how many are missing... will get you a price per bolt if you like

£2.00 delivered mate for 3 and washers.

you may find that the whole lot from under the cover arnt there, best to check!

cool, will check under the tray didn't think of that, bit wet at the mo to check lashing down here and too poor to have a garage,

have a bucket of bolts from the rebuild so will check through those in the mean time.............fun fun fun............

The bolts on the tray won't affect anything. They just hold the tray into the cam cover, theres no seal. But take it off and check your cam cover underneath, make sure those ones aren't missing.

took the tray off today and there are no bolts at all in the middle, an i right in saying all 8 need to be present?

car has done 3k miles since the rebuild was done could not having these bolts in for that time damage the engine? is there anything else i should be checking?

I've cleaned the oil off the plugs leads etc

thanks

TC

no will just cause oil leak possibly. mite be worth investing in a new gasket for the cover and definatly fit some bolts!
