Bye bye V6 – Hello Flat 6 - 996 Turbo

WONGY

New Member
Been an entertaining 8 years owning my Vee but recently decided to move onto a new project and challenge a 996 turbo.

Was a tough call since the vee has been very reliable and great fun even though my gearbox blew up and a few coils until I fitted the trophies!

Also been great to know a few folks on this forum who’ve been really great in terms of support and advice

I’ll be logging in now and hope people don’t mind I’ll still hanging around to say hi – that and checking that Brett finishes that Vee twin turbo project!

Special mention to James always quick response and helpful

Spike for chinwags about fuel pumps and stuff

Lankan for replying to my endless emails on what’s a good Porsche!

And Scott @ SG will message him offline for saving me multiple times when the local dealer just didn’t get it right!

Thanks and good luck everyone

As mentioned a few weeks ago Wongy. Best of luck and thank you for being such a great Vee owner.

You'll be a great loss to the club with your active contributions but please keep us updated with your 996 Turbo experience.
: )

Wongy,

Always a pleasure to meet you either online or in person.

You have helped me many times with my Vee and your experience with the Vee in HK is a benefit to all Vee owners in HK. Especially on how to get Renault HK to do the right thing!

Please do come back once in awhile and we don't bash Porsches all the time

Look forward to the next Sunday Drive when my Vee is repaired and your 996 fill up with a couple of hundred extra horses.

Sorry to see you part with your Vee, but good luck with the 996 Turbo.

As you know, a completely standard 996 Turbo is not my first choice of a pure driver's Porsche, but it cannot be faulted for its abilities on the road, and more importantly it does fit your specific needs. Good buy, especially with the PSS10's. Seems like you have an action plan to get more poke out of the engine. ;)

All the best, and do drop by.

Echoing others' sentiments, it's always been great having you around as one of our most active non-UK-based members Wongy, so all the best for the future and definitely don't be a stranger!

Thanks for everyones good wishes!

Update is the new owner is very happy with the car and the hot starting problem fixed before sale by replacing fuel pump has worked

As for the Porsche just had the world tuning guru in Chicago do inspection of boost leaks with local garage and data log analysis

Couple of boost leaks meaning turbos boosting correctly but then leaking within the system with fixes all hoses and clamps so nothing too expensive

The scary part is the car was fast enough before this work but obviously be quicker (and scarier) when I get it back! It will be modified to 500bhp with upgraded Intercoolers and other pieces via tuning gurus custom tune and circa 530 if we go for the exhaust. That and its usable power e.g. breathing colder air, turbos spooling lower down the rev range

Luckily found out the car has upgraded Bilstein suspension and 6 pot caliper brakes to cope - which the previous owner didnt realise - 7k gbp worth of free kit :)

Other than that the usual pain per owning the Clio in Hong Kong of what should be normal maintenance means researching online & shipping in parts - including my own oil from Opie! Fortunately I was able to use my v6clio.net discount code :)
