Buying tyres: New V 2nd Hand

Looking at tyres for the Megane work car and came across these on Ebay. A set of 4 IMO a good brand with tyre tread no less than 6.5mm. Camskill show these around £90 a corner so these are about half price, I could buy a lesser brand for the same if not less but these again are a good company. I was going to call and see if he'll take an offer and fitted.

I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were to A: These tyres B: buying 2 hand tyres in general.

I mean I wouldn't buy tyres that are say 3mm left unless they were say dirt cheap track tyres for the 225.

A: I've never had an issue with the continentals, will be fine for a work horse.

B: it's a mine field really, if the price is right it's worth a punt. It really comes down to them being stored correctly and how new they are, the second not being an issue with these ones.

Always worth asking if he'all take offers, even at £200 fitted you're saving 50% over new

I would ask for the manufacture date. Old stored tyres can have great tread but still be knackered.
This, and check the sidewalls for damage and the inside of the tyres for previous repairs.

The risk is the same as fitting 2nd hand brake parts, steering parts etc etc.

Contis are decent got them on the works van.

I would buy new mate. Ive had a few dodgy part worns in the past - false economy usually and a lot are ancient too which makes them worse than a new budget tyre.

Just spoke to the tyre place and they can do them for £180 fitted. All tyres manufactured in 2014, he tells me tyre life is approx 5 years? So good for 2019. All tyres not repaired, pressure tested and between 6.5 and just over 7mm

For the daily? I'd go for it.

At that price I would go for it... No different to buying a 2nd hand car... You look at the tyres.... But you don't check manufacturer date, or repairs...

I had to do it, front drivers side tyre had a puncture and on closer inspection all tyres were about 6 years old and not in great condition. I had half a day off so I bit the bullet and bought them. I've looked online on 2-3 websites and they're quoting £101-103 each fitted for the same ones so they came in about half the price. Maybe not everyone's choice but to me I have 4 premium make tyres all on 7mm of tread, no sidewall cracks and for £45 each. They came off a Mercedes, if they're good enough for them :D
