Broken Heater Control Flap Mechanism

Last year I had a problem with the heater blowing out hot air when set to the coldest setting,

I also had a problem with regassing the aircon and the system overpressurising. Im not sure yet if these 2 issues are being caused by different things, however I had the car into an autoelectrical specialist today and they found this:

It's where the heater control unit drive motor fits into the side of the heater box and controls the flap, and the gear on the motor has completely lunched the female connector of the motor flap.

Looking at Cliosport forum, it seems to be a common problem on 172's which use the same climate control system. But just a warning to everyone, if your heater gets stuck blowing hot or cold (whatever the control unit is set to) its highly likely you have the same problem.

Access to this is to the left of the drivers footwell on the side of the centre console.

I'm just trying to find out now if the dash needs to come out to sort it and the parts needed, but Im guessing its gonna be pricey!

First photo Dan, should there be a motor or something that has come away? Seeing the broken shaft / hole but what goes in and more to the point where is it?

Hi Phil, yeah the servo motor has been removed to reveal that hole with the chewed up cog inside. You see on the other photo there is a circular block above with 'Valeo' written on, that is another servo motor the same as the one thats been removed and out of shot

Cheers Dan, nice to know :approve:
Might be worth checking the servo's haven't worked loose if it is a common problem :salut:
Hope you get it sorted easily ( cheaply )

I'm taking the car into a local Renault specialist next week to get a new spare key supplied and programmed. So they will look at this heater box prob at the same time. Got a price off Paul today at RPD for the box itself ... £230 but it's the labour to fit it, dash off heater matrix out etc!
