Bringing a monster back to life.......

When I read the title... "Bringing a monster back to life", I felt a chill run down my spine at the thought of a previous monster.

I will be watching this thread matey :race:

Glad you got it and it didn't slip through the net like Tom 0001 did.

Haha, thanks Mossy. I don't feel quite as bad about TOM0001 now but I still crave an Illiad Ph1.

So another week has passed with the turbo car and a few more jobs done albeit quite small. First off I made some carbon fibre foglight blanks. I was desperate to do this as I hated the look of it with colour coded brake ducts. Sitting next to the Nocturne it looked so wrong. This has lead on to another job though as I now no longer have any ducting for the huge 6 Pot AP's. Instead I am going to make some ducts similar to the Trophy type that sit above the splitter and below the bumper line. This will mean I can also lose the chrome drop links and use the two duct as a support for the Trophy splitter instead. Once the splitter has been sprayed satin black and the canards removed from the corners I'll be a little more happy.

Next up was the engine bay. It received a heavy dose of cleaner and WD40. Everything cleaned up much better than I first thought it would do and having a 5 year old helped wonders. There was only so long I could be cramped up in there!! All the wiring and pipework looks brilliant now and apart from flushing out the charge coolers, header tanks and petrol tank it's ready for its engine.

While Little 'n' was having fun getting messy, I removed most of the alloy paneling and replaced it with carbon fibre which looks much more contemporary. Next thing to do is get some gold heat proof insulation and fit where needed.

Last thing of the weekend was to take a look at the new engine block. Where it had sat for a fair few years it had developed quite a bit of surface rust. I was a little worried that it may have pitted in one or two places but luckily with a VERY mild hone it come up perfectly. If this was a standard-ish engine then I would leave it as is but with the top spec stuff going back in it and boost added on top I'll be sending it to Knights Engineering for a final hone to perfect size. Next thing on the engine is to look at getting decent bottom end bolts and some new bearings.

Nice update Brett.

I've been wondering about the best install for brake ducts and think the hidden V6 Trophy type may indeed be the best option.

I had bought spare fog surrounds to go down the other route - but it wouldn't quite look right.

What I really need is Russo to fabricate me a V6 Trophy bumper which directly fits the road car front wings...

Ideally I'd use fog surrounds but a, I haven't got any and b, the bumpers been so modified I simply couldn't fit any to it.

Seems there are a few little monsters coming out the woodwork now! Will you be joining us at ORS Brooklands this year Tim?

I'm sure Tim won't mind me saying that his Monster is still work in progress, but now has a bright shining light at the end of the tunnel.

I would have thought that it's impossible for Tim to commit to attend until his Vee has properly reached completion.

Any progress Brett ? just having a fuel tank fabricated for mine, slow going though hoping to get back to it properly later this month

Other than getting stuff ready for aqua blasting not much. Will be soon though as the Nocturn is going forward.

I was being nosey and wondered where ‘9276MT’ numberplate currently resides. So, life after ‘Wild Turbo Crazy’ Clio is a BMW K1300R.

What’s the latest update here then Brett.. are you any nearer to bringing this monster back to life..?

The last time I saw you trying to bring a monster back to life, she got up and drove herself home.. upset.. Any more luck here..? :)
