Hi Andrew, this is why I said rally car,by that I mean one that is not used on the road.I think hydraulic handbrakes are not permitted in the MOT.
BUT,as I am writing this I'm thinking to myself "Just fit the mechanical ones for when you have your MOT!?!"
Just remove the locating tabs and slide in the mechanical piston, should take about 10/15 minutes plus a break bleed. The pistons are nearly twice the size than that of the standard rear caliper. quote]
Hmmm ... a few thoughts.
Hudraulic handbrakes? I have one on my Super5 Rally Car. It ts fitted in-line with the standard rear disks. The standard mechanical handbrake is retained in its entirety, as all Rally Cars must have a valid MOT certificate.
Fitting your double-diameter piston calipers to the rear of a Gordini would be a disaster, to put it bluntly. My mate tried this when he fitted a set of Nova front disks and calipers to the rear axle of his Nova Rally car in 1985. He was (and still is!) a very experienced rally driver, but gave himself a huge fright when he found himself completely broadside at 80 mph on a closed tarmac road (Epynt, in Wales). The reason for this was the large piston diameter, which means that the rear brakes locked the rear wheels under heavy brakeing.
As I say, you need a LOT of experience to be able to deal with both rear wheels locking solid, throwing your car sideways on the entry to a bend, for example ...
