Brake Caliper - Complete Refurb

GlowRed

New Member
Hi,

The brake calipers on my Phase II have been painted red by the previous owner, the rear pads need changing and the car pulls slightly left when braking.

Therefore, I have decided that I want to have all the calipers, front and rear, completely stripped, repainted in a more OEM finish with AP Racing stenciled on the front calipers and to have new seals etc fitted.

Can anyone recommend a specialist that can do this work?

By doing a Google search I have found:
http://www.brakecaliperrefurbs.co.uk
http://www.brake-caliper-painting.com

Thanks,

Carl.

If it pulls to the left when breaking there is too much run out on one of the discs, you can have them skimmed or get new.

Big Red good for rears and there parts, but they don't do AP..
:approve: for Ali's recommendation.

FYI below, might be useful... I did calipers, disks and pads last year..

contact at AP Racing - [email protected]
Contact for AP parts - Race Parts - [email protected]

I'm currently awaiting the return of my Vee from a full brake and caliper refurbishment. Both guys were very helpful and James could supply all the parts required within a few days.

a little info below from Pete at AP:

The Clio V6 front Caliper should have an AP Racing part # etched on between the 2 mounting lugs.
CP6605-8S0:TWR (RH)
CP6605-9S0:TWR (LH)

Seal kit # CP4525-JK (1off per caliper required)
Consists of hydraulic seals, boot seals, bleed screws, bleed screw O/ring seals, Bleed Screw dust plugs.
Pad pins # CP6600-109 (2off per caliper required) 100mm long.
Anti-rattle clip # CP6600-150 (1off per caliper required).

So if the bridge pipes (1off per caliper) and wear plates (4off per caliper) are OK then the above parts are all that’s required to service this calliper

James at Raceparts had supplied me all of above, along with new wear plates and screws.

For the rears, they are a Bendix caliper, used on the late citreon XM. Contact BigRedd for seal kits.

Hi Peter,

Many thanks for all the info on the parts and where to get them.

I wish to send both the front and rear calipers to one company and get them to completely strip and rebuild using OEM parts.

I was down with Scott just before Christmas. He overhauled the brakes (didn't paint the calipers though). He was telling me that he's looking for somewhere to paint calipers at the time. There's no-one I trust more to sort the brakes on my car.

I have spoken to Scott and he is hoping to pick up more information on brakes, particularly the AP Racing front calipers, at the Autosport show this weekend.

Whilst I'm waiting for Scott to get back to me I'm contacting other possible options.

Had a response from The Brake Caliper Specialists, regarding the refurb of all 4 calipers.

They will completely disassemble, clean, shotblast the caliper bodies and ultrasonic clean all the components.

Then all the calipers will be painted and AP Racing stencils put on the front calipers only.

Then they will rebuild, refurbish and remanufacture the calipers.

AP Racing rubber parts etc. will be replaced with OEM parts.

The rear calipers will have seals made by Budweg.

Total cost: 719.00 inc vat

Not sure if this is competitive or not.

Initially I was not able to get in touch with http://www.brakecaliperrefurbs.co.uk so I gave them a miss.

However, Scott spoke to them today and was impressed and he then contacted me to tell me so.

I then rang Brake Caliper Refurbs again and got straight through. They are going through a move and have been inundated with emails and phone calls over the Christmas period.

They seem very professional and their parent company is the largest AP Racing distributor in the UK, so no problem getting the correct AP parts.

I'll definitely be giving them a go and will report back when the work is complete (It will take me a week or so to get the callipers off and their turnaround is about 2 weeks)

Here is a picture of my refurbished brake caliper :)

The total cost for all 4 calipers was £445.00

For information, it took 4 weeks from sending the calipers off to getting them back.
