got asked to stick some details up here about the car...

pics are a bit hit and miss sorry!!

it's my lads car, his first, had it for a good few months and then decided he wanted a bit more oomph from it. i said to him about a 225/boosted 197 conversion but he wanted to ideally keep the 1.6 k4m engine and see what he could get out of it, chris had already mapped it and worked out the stock ecu would be fine seeing boost so it began.

another thing that got him to keep the standard engine was the amount of people who said it couldn't be done, even one who kept saying 'it won't hold boost' but would never explain exactly what he meant so he's kind of responsible for the first stock boosted conversion. at first we were going to use bits from a laguna turbo i had knocking round, exhaust manifold on the f4r and k4m are a close match to say the least. he then got a pay rise and wanted as much custom as possible.

spec at the mo is completely stock engine, rods are scarily thin!! custom tubular exhaust manifold, td04 14t megane turbo, stock ecu, 330cc injectors, laguna turbo map sensor, 2 1/2" down pipe to custom 2 1/2" system with single back box, 2" boost pipework, small cheap ebay intercooler etc...

car was done at first on a 2" down pipe back system and ended up at 200bhp, few months later rest was changed, back on the rollers and map tweak it gave 220bhp.

was on standard gearbox at first, ratios and final drive are awful!!! looked at various options but decided on a megane dci 5 speed box, works well with it but won't pull right through in 5th as it's geared for something stupid like 180mph.

next planned mods are supertech oversized valves, forged rods, forged pistons, hopefully G25-550 turbo and a few other bits to get it comfortably past 300bhp.

this is awesome, and good on you/your lad for trying out something new. I remember when i had mine everyone was just saying it couldnt be done. I think thats because K TAX did one and it didnt hold up very well?

Do you have any vids from it?

That was what we kept hearing, ktec couldn't do it so it can't be done!!

We've got a guy just up the road who does the manifolds and cages etc. Work is bloody good and great prices as well.

unfortunately its one of them cars that very few companies support, so what they say seems to be what is trusted. I wouldnt believe a word that comes out of their mouth personally but thats me lol

Chuck the details up, the fab work looks tidy so he might get some more work (y)

He's mad busy as it is, I've got a 225 in with him for a tubular manifold and then a 250 to go in for turbo back exhaust, intercooler and pipework.

ahh cool, im in need of a 225 down pipe but it has to be super tight to the mani as i need it to clear the brake master cylinder in a clio 172

i hear on the book of face this went back for more a few more tweaks and now has yet more powerz?

engine and box are out now, forged build is on it's way. we were going to build the engine and then just swap it over but he's going for sidemount turbo, vertical cooler and few other bits so going to be easier to start from scratch with it as bumper cross bar will be getting chopped out and few other bits changed as well.

the boost set up will probably be getting chucked on a renault wind he's getting this weekend as his next project but the low boost will do it for now.
