Ive got a BMC and rate it very highly, havent heard Piper X but the BMC sounds wicked and I highly recommend it :)

You can have my BMC CDA if you want to swop for the standard airbox, I am trying to return my car to standard its a MK1

My car had a piper on it when I bought it - I read somewhere that when you buy the kit new there is some kind of cleaner / oil to be applied? Is that correct if so how often?

I just fitted my Pipercross EVO last night, which I bought off here quite a few months ago ... I have fitted 3 now to Vees and the installation is quite easy and looks good when it's in place but then it all gets hidden under the engine cover [smilie=icon_exclaim.gif]

The Pipercross EVO kit comes with all the necessary parts and and big jubilee clips which are essential as is the flexible 100mm hose which you get with the kit - I think it is essential anyway. You can get away with using the stock hose, which is also 100mm, but things can get fiddly when installing and you have less lee-way for adjusting the filter mounting due to stock pipe not quite being long or flexible enough.

I found securing the filter quite easy, this should be done rather than leaving it 'hanging'. I simply used a longer bolt in the supplied mounting fitting which allowed one of the existing 3 airbox rubber grommets to be used. The longer bolt threads through the rubber grommet and the supplied washer and nut can be used to secure the filter and still allow it to flex as required as the engine moves - this reduces stress on the pipes to prevent them splitting or dislodging over time.

I drove the Vee to work this morning and the induction noise is quite loud in the cabin - not necessarily to my liking but it is only like that really on full chat and I am sure I will get used to it ;-) You can clean the and re-oil the filter as per most performance filters.

I will probably add some more to the existing knowledge article too ...

Would a open filter be any better then such as a piper x or bmc? my brother was saying if i got a hard pipe made up exiting in the side pod with a open filter it would sound really nice? as anyone tried it? or should i just buy a Piper X or BMC.

Thanks Aimy

You need to use an enclosed filter of some kind due to the engine bay getting very, very hot!

An engine running on inducted hot air isn't good news and will effect the running and performance.

Is there a difference with the Mk1 and Mk2 BMC/PiperX induction kit? I'm guessing there's something different with them listing Mk1 and 2 under different part numbers, just in case a s/h one turns up

no they are both the same for both mk1 and 2. i'm running the bmc carbon box and it's a lovely sound which isn't to intrucive and is so easy to fit. 8)
