....this outfit does not have the Vee listed on their site as yet, but they do have an 18K-mile Lotus Carlton for sale at £50K! Wow!

Traders are the professionals and know much more about these things than I ever will. I wouldn't be naive enough not expect to pay a premium for making a purchase from a business establishment.

Whether or not the price is right is subjective, and is dependent on a car's condition and history. At that list price this particular Vee needs to be absolutely perfect in every sense of the word. However, that does not mean there is no room for negotiation, which I am sure the dealer has built into the list price. I personally feel that the Phase 2's listed privately on Pistonheads right now are a great buy, if somewhat undervalued, for someone wanting to get into Vee ownership.

However, as an ex-owner, who sold up because you were underwhelmed by the Phase 2 you owned, I can see why you would think that Vee's in general are overpriced. IMO it is not about how fast it goes or how great it looks or how much attention it attracts, the Vee is a unique/quirky creation, the likes of which we may not see again. That is the what appeals to me - a definite classic in the making, if not already there. In my eyes it is already a classic.

As regards the Lotus Carlton, I don't know of this particular one, but the last one I saw for sale (at Wilton Classic Supercar in August) had covered 33K miles and was for sale for £40K - it was in okay condition (only sat in it), so £50K for one that has covered 18K miles is not over the top, but again I believe condition will dictate the final price one would be prepared to pay for such an example.

The only problem with allowing someone to sell your car, is trusting them to do your car justice in terms of trying to sell it & giving it a good appraisal.

The fact the advert is on autotrader with no pics & a short description doesn't really inspire much confidence.

I would have gone with a recognised seller-

All vehicles etc.

Understand.

Indeed advertising it too cheaply may put certain buyers off, and Glass' Guide is not the best barometer for Vee prices now.
