Bang from engine!! Help

Ok,

Just been out in the vee and half way down the road there was a bang from the engine area......lower down in the revs there was loss of power but is fine after 3krevs! Listening to the back of the car there is a noise coming from the back box area like a rattleing noise when being rev'd.

Any ideas? Coil? Backbox?

Could have blown the baffle in the bax box, might have come unwelded inside and is now loose and rattling.

Im no expert but could be a possibilty.

Took it to Renault today and apparently it's coil no.4 gone. They didn't have the parts so i'm taking it back tomorrow...hopefully that should have sorted it. :)

can u please tell how much renualt want all in to change the coil mate?

a pm is fine if u dont want to publicly say

its just i paid £197 for 1 coil on a mk1

glad u got it found out and its nothing major

£197!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oouuuccchh!

coils are £42 each including VAT, and can be fitted easily in about 5 mins if its the easy ones, about half an hour..if its under the plenum!!!

id be going back to have words!!!! :(:(

£199 they quoted me. I asked them for a price to do an oil change out of interest, they quoted £114  I think i'll be doing it myself.

Robv6 get the coil and ill fit it 4 you for a reduced rate!!!

No where near the stealer prices!!!

And the oil and filter if you supply parts.

^^^ Wish i'd have known that.

Took it to Renault today to get the coil done and they sorted that out fine but i was on the way home when i realised the Trip Comp wasn't working. It worked fine on everything but the MPG and miles left in tank (i think), rang Renault when i got in and they spoke to the engineer who said that it was a seperate problem and nothing relating to the work they did today, even though it was working fine before i took it. So it was going to cost me another £41 for diagnostics. :?

After speaking to the manager there i'm taking the car back on saturday...free of charge.

On top of that they did a 25point safety check and found out that the front o/s wiper was on upside down...this is a wiper that they put on, it works fine so i never noticed it

They also must have put some pressures in the tyres when doing it as they put 32 psi in the fronts as oppossed to the 20-22psi. :?

They also left the engine cover flithy and covered in oil.

Last time i go Renault @ Chester for anything, the snotty mare on the front desk didn't help either.

Arrghhhh ... what it with the majority of dealers and the b.s. they peddle  .

The Trip Comp problem is absolutely related to the coil problem ... and can be easily fixed. Doesn't stop dealers claiming it's an unrelated problem and even trying to charge for replacing the dash/clocks to remedy it at the cost of hundreds of pounds .

Here are the instructions for reseting the trip computer ... http://www.v6clio.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=140

(I really need to pull my finger out and get the v6clio.net wiki live, since then we can document all these important technical nuggets in a single place.)

Rob will have to meet up soon, im in the area quite a bit cus i work for Bentley.

Glad you got it sorted out, i try to avoid the stealers as much as possible unless i have to for specialist parts.

Let me know we can get somethin organised.

yeah will have to meet up one weekend soon. We go to DK Motors sometimes so guessing your not far from there? Only 30mins down the road near Nantwich.

Its due for a service in the next 1k miles so will have to sort something out.

Let the Dealer know how to re-set

I did John....rang back and spoke to the dealership manager again. I told him how/what to do and he didn't know you could do that. I then proceeded to tell him how this is usually a standard requirement after changing a coil, which made his service staff seem incompetant i think!! He then went on to appologise about the free Safety Check and how his engineer had put 32psi in the front tyres in error!!!! Error, i think not.

Problem is my cambelt is due next year so may need to have a trip to somewhere else i think.
