Autoraise 2022.

Doing this again, Autoraise is a charity to set up support quality apprenticeships in the body repair industry, I'm going as spanner man again, with crusty old Renault fossil John Henderson, we did this in a 1965 Renault Dauphine Gordini a few years back.
This time we're in a Renault 8. You can read about it in the blurb, most entrants are cars prepped by apprentices on a very limited budget, but classics are allowed, you choose a country to represent and that is the basis for the colour scheme, this time we've copped for Morocco......first day is dressed in that chosen country's .....erm .....dress.......so I'll be garbed up in a fez and some sort of kaftan type affair, so I'll post some pics as we go along and you can laugh at me......I'm not proud.
Based around Wales this year, good few hundred miles, be a jolly lark.
You can donate, but I know it's a hard sell , so many good causes after your hard earned, and probably more deserving charities targeting life and death issues, so I don't expect any great take up, but you can follow our progress and laugh at me looking a twat.

If someone sends me a TR sticker , I'll sneak it on anyhow, he'll never know.....if you can see it for the tassels in the windows, they've painted it like a carpet.....I'll look a reet cutter....

Day 0 , start point, Mansfield, I arrived to find car flat as a witches tit, did usual checks, drain etc, got it started with noco booster, but it wouldn't start again once shut down, charging was good enough for a generator equipped car, so must be bad battery.
Made arrangements for a pit stop en route , there was an emergency dentist trip needed, so we did a bit of extra miles , but new battery seems to have solved today's woes.

Car looks epic with carpet effect paintwork and gold tassels, even got some flashing globes round the roof.......
Keeping off M ways to overnight stay in Stratford on Avon , via Coventry, Warwick, Nuneaton etc.
Rally starts proper tomorrow at Caffeine and Machine or summat, I prefer tea, so see what they can do for me.

Ended today at Aberystwyth ( well inland a bit ), via Worcester, Ludlow and Welshpool, few stops, I won't overload on pics , cos cars is cars and we've all seen them before, I'll dump what interested me at the end.
Just short on 300 miles done from leaving cars location.

It's not cheap, I only get free pass as spanner dunce.
Made it without incident to last stop in Cardiff Bay, bit posh for a scruff like me, nice drive over mountains and valleys, I'll drop pics now I've got a decent WiFi.




Called in at Devils Bridge, got a couple of pics, Rotherham sites beetle, and the 8 , which was pimped by a 16 year old apprentice, it's all temporary, car is gonna be pulled apart, re panelled and painted after this
Nice old AA box, and the AA hotel looking very 'Alpine'





We're showing 500 miles so far, but I reckon you can knock that back 10%, Speedo is over reading by about that, so expect mileage to be out similar.

All the cars with green on are Gemini apprentices work, the 206 cab for instance is sporting lambo scissor doors, they're projects for them to work on , mess about, play with different paint techniques, the classics are owned by body shop owners, employees etc

Home, back in my box, cars showing 879 miles, allowing for inaccuracy, I'd say we've clocked about 800, raised about a grand, no break downs, ridiculous 71/2 hour journey back , cos Mr H didn't want to thrash it on M ways, I'm totally fecked, little sleep due to snore a thon.....managed about two hours a night.
Total so far for the event was something like 160k raised according to last nights swanky dinner do at Cardiff Bay Hotel.

Finished, done, com-feckin-plete.......I'm not leaving house unless I'm in something modern again....ever.

I drove it for a morning, but he didn't take kindly to me trying to to keep up with the two Celicas .....got me thinking though, drove very well, nearly had an 8S on the hook a while back.
I can see their potential, and I've got dibs on the panels from this one ........
