Automatic Transmission fluid change / Hot Weather

Hi Folks!

Henri Tudur II my Renault 5 Supercinq Automatic is about to clock 30K. I wondered if this is the right time for a change of ATF - Automatic Transmission Fluid which I would get done at my local garage.

On Monday I went out to the local Morrisons in Henri having not used him for the previous few days and after reversing out of the parking bay as I drove off I noticed that the automatic gearbox was very sluggish and it wasn't changing gear. I noticed that the automatic transmission light was on so I turned right at the roundabout and found a convenient place on the road to the industrial state to stop. Moving the selector into N the light remained on but went off when I moved it into P. I then moved it back to D and it was fine and has been fine since with the gearbox changing up and down ok and running smoothly. The only thing that I can think of is that I hadn't used Henri for a few days and he was stood in very hot temperatures of around 28c on Monday down here in Hampshire the temperature was around 30c so I am wondering if the light coming on was due to the hot weather and the car and therefore ATF fluid being stationary. This also got me thinking about the question of when to replace ATF fluid.

Regards

Harley :)
