cheers buddy, i liked mine so much i bought it back. Awesome machine for the money, a bit dated now but it certainly shifts. back when i ran it it was doing 12.7 sec quarters with heated seats on so its not to be sniffed at for nearly a ton and a half of car. its a proper mile muncher too longs you dont mind the fuel bill.
I need to rewrite a file for the car, not sure what i was up to a few years ago but it overboosts at low rpm like a C**t. 25+psi on inital spool up. Surprised the turbos arnt dead yet. 18psi tapering down would be loads better. Drove it to work today with the n75 (boost control) valve disconnected thinking i had a stuck actuator or something, but returns to run about 7psi with it off, so no overshooting there suggesting the actuators are fine.
It will take some time to refresh my memory on how to actually remap these, i have the tools and have pulled the map off the ecu but need to spend some time looking over it all to make changes and hopefully make it safer even if a little slower. Though saying that the boost profile after the initial spike should be the same. Maybe im just more cautious these days. Will have to head back over to the nefmoto site and get the basics back into my head
Probably need to lower the wastegate maps around low rpm, you probably 95%'d the whole last column
Or your ldrxn is requesting too much load at low rpm.
Did you mess with kftarx? Load vs temp? That'll pull boost(load) down at high rpms
I've got a few maps for these engines from named tuners, all different tuning style but all the same bhp.
Won't supply you them but happy to help you if needed
Tbh i have to get back into and take a look. Sunday/Monday i should get some time to dig around. I think i found copies of all my old cals and definitions on an ehd just need re install tuner pro and i can take a look again. I did at one point have copies of all the old tuner ones, I actually hope ive got copies of the viper tuning one i paid for too, that went very well i just started having fun playing with it and went off on one.
been browsing back over at nefmoto, good to see they did a community 2.7 tune thats available with good results. Its about 40 pages long, and a good read through for stage 1 to 2 ecu tuning, some really good info in there for refreshing the mind. Will probably drop that on to make the car safe for now or even the stock calibration just so i dont have to drive around the boost issue.
passat b5.5 aero wiper arms and wipers fitted this morning, nowt major just makes it a little more modern and fresh over the old style wipers that were fitted. Also did an oil and filter change, as im sure its not been done since i did it in my first ownership. 6ltrs of helix ultra 5w40 fully synth and a new bosch filter. New tune flashed on also, converted the file from hitachi to bosch maf sensor (sure only @Fordy will know what i mean) will check it out and do some logs and see if the over boosting issue is sorted, if not i might need to take a look at a new n75 valve.
@Fordy quick one, hitachi to bosch maf conversion on the bin. Ive copied over the values from MLOFS MLHFM KFKHFM to the calibration, any others or was it just those to change?
Nice motor. I've been thinking about one of these or an s3 for abit, with the only off putting thing being the 'type' of owner I see behind the wheel round here, especially the s3, so I can't bring myself to getting one. Got an 8l Quattro here but same applies so considering a bora 4motion as I assume they're along the same lines.
Yup, rebranded and not a true 4wd. I did consider getting financed up with an rs4 but again, seems to be the type of car that gets your front door kicked in
golf a3 and bora are all the same i think. B5 rs4 all day long but i couldnt afford to buy one tbh, can pretty much build this into one (power wise) though. they have haldex as stated above thats an electronically clutched 4wd system unlike real quattro that is mechanical. There arnt many of these around here though and most of the dicks drive new bmws and new audis, they usually dont know what hit them when the b5 takes them to pieces lol. Alot faster than the power would suggest.
itd of been painted by now if i had my way. most bits have been found on ebay so far so won there. just waiting on the cruise control wiring harness.
New map is smooth as you like, runs a little less boost than before and a little more timing. Im still get the odd cough and overboost every so often so ill pull the coils and plugs tomorrow and clean and regap them plus get a new n75 valve as im suspecting its getting slow to react thus not catching the spool up spike quick enough.
Lucky me. Turns out when I sold the car it and the odd missfire when coming on boost. I supplied the new owner with some brand new ngk's. They were still in the boot.... gapped up, fitted and the car is slick. Can now look at smoothing the initial boost onset out (have an idea) and maybe adding some more boost back in.
Bigger boost map back on and going good so far smooth and 0 miss fires. Also removed and refitted the front bumper. Common issue for the b5s to have the brackets bend on removal a few times. Just lines it up a little better.
so my brakes are getting a bit worse for wear at the front. I run the B5 RS4 setup thats ok but expensive to replace. So new discs are 215 each plus pads so a shave over 500 when including new fluid aswell. Alternatively I could switch to some brembo 6 pots for a similar price and then have a pair of mercedes disks on there that cost 50-80 each time they need replacing..... I found a set of brembos on ebay so paid for those today, just need to get the rest of the bits needed. Quite a simple upgrade that should save money in the long run and increase the braking efficiency. Only downside would be the reduction in disk size from a 360mm to a 350mm.
