this is an old thread pulled over from the audi forum, ive just purchased the car back so have just carried on the thread.

Thought id put up pics of my car here. I was on the hunt for an avant when i found this one, she was good clean and within my budget. Bar a few faults that needed sorting i think she was a good buy. Shes my daily drive and has just got up to 93k.

A few faults to note when i purchased her were both egt sensors gone and what was described as a heat shield rattle, a good friend of mine whos been telling me to get one for years explained that early ones had faulty manifolds. When i presented the info to the chap i was buying from i got this feeling he knew that. anyway a price was agreed on and a deal done
icon_lol.gif

First job was the egt sensors, i tried repairing the originals but they lasted a week, so i went for the replacement boards, they have worked perfectly since.

Next was the manifolds! at the same time they were getting done i had the cambelt water pump and thermostat done. It was a big job so i put the feelers out for some help, Sambas of here drove down and lent a hand along with another mate who used to work at a audi specialist garage.

It would of been rude not to upgrade a little while it was all out, so some toyosport 3-2.5inch downpipes were fitted along with toyosport mid pipes, should free up the exhaust side a little

and on the cooling side of things a pair of RS4 intercoolers fitted up.

I have a few more bits to do to the car, ive got a facelift scuttle panel to be fitted. Some grooved Front disks to fit up (the oem brakes are poo!) and then im on to looking at suspension. Also the alignment of the front bumper is doing my nut, the gaps to the wins have grown so i defo need to sort that at somepoint.
She Drives smooth and quiet untill you give it beans then she growls

im very please with her now.

The ECU is currently with Viper Tuning getting a stage 2 map done so hopefully she will feel i a little more lively

So ive been playing a little the last few weeks. Had rich at viper do a postal map on my car, was a good improvement but i was at the limit of my very old ecu, so within a few days i wanted more lol. I sourced a later ecu from here and had i posted straight to rich for a stage 2 map. Just fitted up this evening and its quick very quick compared to standard. did a few logs and its hitting low 260g/s. feels great but i think theres some more left in there. the requested boost is higher than my actual boost by a few psi, i think its time to get it pressure tested. Still uber happy with it, brakes and suspension of some sort is needed

had her on the rollers at mrc today, she put down 334ps and 531nm. seemed good and ran well, the stock cat back might be strangling it a little so that with suspension is next on the list.

here's the printout

does anyone have any comment? it was said in another thread that the power drops off quite quickly? is this caused by my standard cat back? i have the mid box removed but maybe its still a bottle neck?

ive fitted up some apex lowering springs though all they seem to have done is firm up the car, not a bad thing though since fitting 18s i feel it need to be lower due to it looking like it can house a small family in the arch gap. im also not that keen on the wheels or there colour on the car. i think its time to try out some bbs ch type wheels. only other additions are the newer s4 boot badge. also just sourced a facelift rear bumper for her

B5 RS4 reps will be for sale in a week or so if anyone is interested?

going along with my facelift additions i got hold of a scuttle cover a few months ago, only just found time to fit it today

i58.photobucket.com_albums_g278_adey1984_E6A95F99_BAE4_4EC2_9738dab8a62da0648b5bb61145139b085a.webp

and with a little bit of ecu fiddling with vag com i activated the auto lock anti hijack feature on the car. locks at over 15mph and unlocks all the doors when the key is removed from the ignition

did a little pipe replacement today, my plastic pipes (spider pipes?) that deal with the rocker covers had seen better days, also the ones leading to the y pipe had broken last time i was messing with them so i decided to replace them all. lucky for me forge motorsport arnt too far from so i poped there this morning for a few bits.

unfortunately i found this when i started

i58.photobucket.com_albums_g278_adey1984_934C5A61_39D0_4E55_889505971b7ed5fc3d03139d0ad68eda43.webp

a quick post here on SRS says it shouldnt be something to worry about. i will as a matter of precaution get a sniffer test done

i decided while i was messing to replace the vac lines to the fpr, redo the n249 bypass and delete the f-hose. all the pipes and fittings on the car were starting to go brittle with age and heat so i did what i could while i was in there.

i58.photobucket.com_albums_g278_adey1984_1F732330_91CD_41B0_8F3d2265032224bd8bc2296c5268215f4b.webp

all the crap plastic hoses replaced and vac lines

and the dump valve vac lines, also got a couple of 90deg pipes for the dump valve to boost pipes.

ebay shiney goodness. now have a full system on the car. needs a little tweak but love the sound it makes

i58.photobucket.com_albums_g278_adey1984_AD250F8E_7066_43AA_8D1b3edcb7d762a94ffa3d0267e9a3954e.webp

so after my power has been increasing slowly while i work on the car and ecu the brakes have been getting worse and worse. i sorted a deal out with S4Twiggy on here and picked up his old rs4 brake setup. a quick clean up some braided brake lines from forge motorsport and fresh set of pads has seen them fitted this evening. now its no porker brembo setup but even with just 15 miles of driving this eve they are a hell of alot better than the stock s4 brakes. im now on the hunt for some matching rears

i58.photobucket.com_albums_g278_adey1984_4163ACFA_0EBF_4DDD_832de5984bcafbc707c32e9fcb26a7e51b.webp

so i had some proper fun in the car last weekend, i took her drag racing on the sat and then ended up there back for some more abuse on the sunday. she did very well but as the weekend progressed started playing up more and more. misfires and negative boost deviations started to plague me end of sat and sunday.

i ended up finding this first

a couple of clean pics. as you can see she rides high. i havent got the 1k for decent suspension but any ideas on the best lowering springs? will probably be mixed in with a rear anti roll bar at the same time

ok so ive decided to push on with the s4 a little more rather then get rid. so few little extras have/are being added, nothing major though.

first up bbs-ch's

i58.photobucket.com_albums_g278_adey1984_null_zps1b123f17.webp

like them but need to reduce the arch gap a little and firm the whole car up as id like to have a little fun on track this year, i have some suspension on the way and fingers crossed it will be here tomorrow so i can fit it at the weekend.

SECOND OWNERSHIP FROM HERE ON

Its been a long while..... i sold this car back in may 2013 and have now agreed to buy her back just over 3 years later. Good points are its only done 4k since i sold it, its also been fitted with some coilovers. Bad news is that soon after i sold it it got T boned and sustained a little damage to a door and rear arch

ive said to the owner a few times over the years that id take her back and now he has agreed a price to let her go.

Suspension will need a setup and obviously the body work sorting. There is the door the arch some marks on the bumper and a rear light to replace, but she still pulls strong and drives very well. Should be collecting in a week or 2, just need to shift another on of the fleet to make way for her.

hopefully after getting her looking good again i can start work on getting a few more bhp from her and eventually beat my current quarter time whilst using her for the commute.

found 20 min to get the car this afternoon. its currently sat outside looking sorry for itself. hopefully i will have a rear door here in the next day or 2 and i can it swapped over so its a little less in your face.

Came with a pair of k04's in the boot and an rs4 fuel pump #winning.

Ill try and get it to a few body shops early next week for a quote on the repair work.

Still goes very well, brakes need looking at as im sure the RS4 fronts used to pull it up alot quicker but generally it needs a good service. 3 years and 4k since i last did the belt so tbh im going to leave that one for now. Just fluids and check up is on the cards

A little bit of progress. Silver door was delivered from a place on ebay. No major dents or deep scratches and a dam sight better than a bright green door. Promptly swapped over and the trims added back to it. Slightly off in colour but hard to notice in person. Im sure once the arch is sorted i can have them blend the door at the same time. Swapped out all the gubbins from the green door into it so i had the electric windows as it was a manual winder one to start with.

Ive also raised the rear a bit this morning, actually too much to be honest so i will drop it back down a touch. Discovered a bit of a wobble too under acceleration and braking. Ill book in for a full set of new tires have them balance and align everything at the same time. The tires are a bit of mix match on there already and one has a screw in......

Tidied it up a little more just to last until i get to the body shop, hit the filler with some sandpaper and primer.

Then down to the local tyre shop for 4 new bridgstones and alignment, was a little all over the place i think due to the suspension swap but new rubber and having the wheels point in the right direction has made a massive improvement.

Also ordered up some passat aero wipers and arms and a cruise stalk and wiring, just a few things i wanted to do when i last had it but never got round to doing.

Its now on coilovers so abit better than stock, handling though is a little boat like generally. Front heavy with the v6 up there but with some anti roll bars and decent suspension fitted they can be made to go around corners well. If you get into trouble you just floor it and the 4wd will find you grip somewhere and itll go where the wheel is pointing. After a few years of driving more modern stuff the steering does feel very light. Great for wafting about in and cruises nicely. Will do licence loosing speeds with ease with just a remap. I last had this one dynoed at 350bhp 400lbft, ill try and find the videos soon
