Anybody here in insurance

I'm currently looking at a cat d car...

The guy sho is selling the car, informs me the car was a cat d due to light front end damage (which given the repair costs of these things, and reading on here, this could be the case). However a couple of things are making me nervous.

The car is a 2002, and the write off was done back in 2004, when the car would have only been 2 years old, so for it to be a write off after only 2 years old (with a rough RV of circa £20k, back then), surely it couldn't of been minor????

The guy has also commented he's had it from new, yet the HPI check confirms 3 former keepers? I've questioned him about the 3 former keepers and he tells me, he was the first, insurance company when he wrote it off, slavage company who bought it from the insurance company, and then back to him when he bought it to repair it, hence 4 keepers including him as the current keeper... I'm not in insurance but is this the case? I just find it hard to believe the V5 changes hand in such situation so many times?

Can anybody confirm/deny the above comments? The car is up for £9k but I think it's good value if all is correct.

PS. Guys tells me he has all previous MOT's and service history for the car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Paddylad

Do you know the registration number? We might have some info listed on the car.

I know my first Vee was 2002 and it was written off just 2 years later.

Agreed, but if you call the guy he'll openly tell you it's a cat d...

Like you say though, no mention of it in the ad.

The salvage yard would not have it registarted to them as they are trade, just like a car dealer, so if he owned it from new thats one and if he repurchased it thats 2 owners , so that 2 extra owners with no info !!!!, send a £5 to DLVA and ask for a list of the old owners names and addresses.

It can take a while to come through. mine cat C and was never registared to the salvage yard but has had 5 owners before me and its a 04, does he have photo of damage and repairs. Like these

Back in October when I was looking to purchase a vee I contacted this guy a few times, each time with no response what so ever!

To be honest, you could get yourself a non Cat-D MK1 for only a little over 9K with the way the market is now.

We've seen some fantastic condition MK1s go for around 10K from here.

Just a thought. Either way, good luck and hopefully you'll have a Vee soon!

Paddylad, I paid circa 8k for my Mk1 and although a purist might see things that I can't, it is in fantastic condition and the engine feels as strong as two oxon.

Good luck hunting, don't settle for anything you are unsure of and follow your gut instinct.

Cheers gents,

All comments duly taken on board, guna hold out for the right one... I've increased my budget to £10k, so fingers crossed in the NY I may just source one...

then it's, bring on the :race:

I may have a Mars Red 230 for sale in the new year for that sort of money.
