And emmisions failure of the year winner is.......

Well had the car in for it's MOT today, failed in a bad way on emmisions and the offside rear handbrake. On a plus he complemented me on the work I've done on the car (y)

Fast Idle:-

CO - Max = 0.300 - Mine = 9.055
HC - Max = 200 - Mine = 362
Lambda - Min = 0.970 -Max = 1.030 - Mine = 0.775

Second Fast Idle:-

CO - Max = 0.300 - Mine = 9.610
HC - Max = 200 - Mine = 428
Lambda - Min = 0.970 -Max = 1.030 - Mine = 0.745

Natural Idle:-

CO - Max = 0.500 - Mine = 8.510

So here we go, overfuelling like a mofo which would explain my crappy MPG, any Ideas why this has failed so bad???

Thinking of getting a new lambda and will have to check all the exhaust connections. Does anyone use sealent on the manifold to downpipe connection? Didn't take the maniold off so don't think it would be drawing in there.

All help appreciated
:(

Hmm dunno but I'd start with all the usual things like lambda and CTS (could try just unplugging them and see if it makes any difference?)

Shouldn't need sealant on the mani-downpipe, there's a kind of asbestos gasket thing built in. But you'll tell if its blowing badly cos you'll smell exhaust in the cabin.

Passed on everything else then?

Passed on everything else bar the offside handbrake. Just doing a search for something about stripping down the handbrake mechanism.

I can smell cat fumes in the car!!! Really need to re seal the whole system as the cat gaskets are shite and it's got a wee blow frome the mid to backbox join.

About that asbestos seal, when I had it split the first time I couldn't see a seal on the downpipe, just a ring of shiney metal. Would some exhaust paste do the job there though as it looks like it needs to move around a bit.

Also whats the CTS gotto do with the emmisions????

the shiny metal ring you saw is the gasket and they normally seal the exhaust pretty well. personally i would not use exhaust paste as i have had little bits clog the cat up in the past.

hi matey the gasket on the manifold is removable but its a cunt as it welds itself to the manifold, i find that its easy to remove by chissellin the top part of the gasket away from the manifold and pryin it down wit a screwdriver but its a cunt to get off

if it's there I'm not removing it, bolted it up as tight as it goes, which isn't very tight due to the pins and gave it a wiggle, hopefully it's seated better now. Away to collect my new lambda then just got to go and seal up the rest of the system then strip down handbrake mechanisms

why you throwing money away on a lambda sensor? Its reading correctly. I have some magic beans here you can buy if you want to piss your money away.

Its gonna be down to the CTS, AIT, MAP or TPS.

Check the MAP pipes ok and not split.

TPS, make sure the arm on it isn't stuck in the WOT position.

AIT, this needs checked with a multimeter or put a new one on.

CTS, same as AIT but no point in checking get a new one.

Or if your not gonna be ragging it about to much, un-plug the CTS and AIT. It will run considerably better and slightly lean which will dry out your saturated cat, it shoudl also pass the emmisions test liek that assumign your cats not fucked now.

Liek I said it runs slightly lean so don't do what my mum did which was sit at 120 for about 10 miles on the A9 and melt the thing.
