Alternative ECUs

It's a necessary development brought forward unfortunately. The standard ECU just can't keep up with all the extra air introduced.

To be honest I would rather have split up the ITB and ECU sides anyhow as together they'd be a fairly formidable outlay!!

Still very much at research stage though. Want to get it right first time. But yes my aim is still to have it ready in time for the Spring road trip Nas and I have planned.
Jon, that would be a serious amount of cash, which I am sure you will be hard pushed to recover, except in enjoyment and the status of having a one-off! Hats off to you though for being different. :salut:

Look forward to seeing the finished article............ :approve:

The question we ask everyone that comes into us, is "what do you want to achieve" the OEM ECU does have scope to be adapted but to a degree. If you want to go ITB's then after market may be required, but if you are just adding exhaust manifold, cat and maybe plenum spacer then the ECU is more than capable of being mapped to accommodate and deliver the additional performance from the mods. Sometimes when tuning stock ECU's its not necessarily the ECU that becomes the problem, more the data read range from the stock sensors ie MAP, MAF etc.
Ben, did you end up with a custom built exhaust manifold? For me the exhaust manifold is the only thing that I would want to change. Also heard that you have done wonders to the front end of your Vee. Would be interested in talking to you about the details, and whether you have that as an offering.

I did eventually finish the manifolds!!! what a labour of love, motor feels great since the build. I haven't had chance to run on the Dyno yet but the initial feeling is mega!! We are defiantly going to run a tweak on the map as well. I am hoping for 290 - 300 which will suit me down the ground!! There has been a slight downside to the new manifolds, in that the engine bay temps have increased somewhat. The plan is to have the manifolds back off and send them off to have them ceramic coated which will do wonders. Plus working on a cooling system for the engine bay as the heat is the enemy!!! ;)

Looking good Ben 8) Coating should help heat management. Be surprised if you get the figures you're expecting. That's quite a jump. Have you opened the engine? Sterling work all the samee :) :approve:

Oh and bin the covers and vent the side windows and voila - heat gone. ;)

Back to the question of ECU , Try Ignitech in cz, they are doing ecus for the big ducatis so may have something that works on a 6 cylinder. the bike stuff is very user friendly., and priced very well.

The Alpine GTA guys have a few on stand alone ECUs.
IIRC they mainly use 'Adaptronic', 'Canems' and emerald.

you could ask facebook.com/jlengineeringuk.
or RATS
who can tell use you how friendly they are to use.

Have had a very reasonable quote from Chris at EFI-Parts for the install and mapping of a standalone ECU. The car will be going to Cheshire in the New Year.

Thanks Andy for the heads up. Much appreciated :approve: 8)

Ben,

Coating would be a really good move to reduce risk of chloride stress cracking on the manifolds, particularly at the HAZ round the welds, Ensure chloride free before coating! Wash with deionised water before blasting with alumina or garnet abrasive, check chlorides below 2mg/m2, send me a pm if you need a test kit, got a few hanging around needing a new home.

You're welcome.
I haven't been directly involved with him but I've a few friends that speak very highly of him.
Good luck (we all need some of that)!

He seems like a detail man from the emails we've exchanged and with ECUs and mapping that's exactly what you want really. Bodes well, so fingers crossed. Thanks again.

To get the power he's getting from a R5GTT you'd need to be a details man or else you'd be rebuilding it every 5 minutes (literally!). :salut:

Haha. Very true!!
