Adrian Flux - Terrible Claim Service

As some of you may know, I recently had an accident where a car hit my Vee from behind.

Simple 'no blame' accident or so I thought.

I rang Adrian Flux's 24hr claim line on Sunday and told them of the accident. It turns out that the claims line is not Adrian Flux. Later I get a call from another company saying they were handling my claim. Again it was not Adrian Flux. They said I had 2 options but did not explain either of them clearly.

Today I tried to ring Adrian Flux directly to establish what was going on. I was put through to customer services. I explained that Adrian Flux would surely handle my claim and that in the background they would sort everything out. The girl I spoke to was pleasant but did not really help me.

Then this afternoon I get another call from a company saying they are handling my claim. I asked if they were Adrian Flux and they said they weren't. I decided not to give them any details.

I foolishly thought this claim was going to be easy. I have no whiplash, I don't need a hire car. I just want my car picked up by the chap that Scott @SG knows as he has a wide covered trailer. Then I want my car repaired by Scott and returned to me. My insurance company should be able to recover all costs from the other parties insurers.

I don't see why I should be dealing with 3 company's, none of which is my insurance broker.

Most insurance companies charge you for legal protection, which it seems you have and so this is probably administered by a 3rd party ... Worked well for me when I had a no-fault claim once - I wasn't with Flux though but the agent working on my behalf wasn't my insurance company - it was a legal firm ...

Having said that I did have to get 'engaged' in ensuring the claim went through as no fault (the third party changed their mind and admitting liability at the accident site is not the done thing and so would imagine it's not a given if they change their mind later) and I also had to justify my selection of my approved/preferred repairer.

You will also probably need to provide quotes from more than one repairer as it's not a given you can use the one you specify unless there is a legitimate reason - the insurance company will expect to send the car to one of their approved repairers. As it turned out for me I got the repairer I wanted after some negotiation but that was because they were also the cheapest anyway as they were not trying to cream everyone like some approved repairers ... If you say goto Renault they may very well be more expensive than Scott so that would play in your favour. If Scott is more expensive than Renault or an approved repairer by a long way then you may have to negotiate or provide some justification as to why Scott is the place to take it ... IMHO the minimum you should start and insist on is a Renault approved dealer or specialist and try thus trying to exclude non-Renault insurance approved options.

Swing all the rare/classic car, pristine pre-accident condition speal also as some insurance companies or legal companies won't care or know what they are dealing with. This is another reason a specialist insurer is better than a mainstream one as they are also aware of the nature of the car that's insured.

Hope that helps as that's how it works AFAIK and good luck as I'm sure it will turn out OK in the end - with a bit of effort on your part ...

Thanks Martin.

I've already gone through the rare car side of things with one of "Adrian Fluxes" claims departments.

I may well contact the other parties insurers and see if I can deal with them direct. At the moment Adrian Flux seem to be worse than useless. I have sent a letter to their complaint department. It's stressful enough having my car damaged without these insurance company hassles.

Gutted for you mate.
Doesn't really help but Flux are easily the worst company I've ever used out of about 13, I wouldn't use them again even if they were half the price of someone like Sky, they're the only ones I've ever renewed with.

All the best with getting it sorted.

At last I seem to be getting somewhere.

Turns out Adrian Flux is the Broker and their claim line is actually ULR a claims management company. I have come across these companies before. You have to sign a legal agreement and they will supposedly fight on your behalf and you will get a better deal. My experience is not too good with them and feel they are more interested in their piece of the pie rather than their customers best interests.

Anyway, I contacted the insurer of the person who hit me. They were happy to deal with me and said they will pay for the claim, no problem. They are happy for me to take the car to Scott @SG. The only possible sticking point is getting my car to SG. I want to use Scott's contact who has the covered trailer.

I then found out that my insurance company is actually Equity Red Star. I rang them and they seemed OK too. I told them I was dealing with the claim direct with the 3rd parties insurance company and they were happy with that. As long as work is not started on the car, they are happy to take over the claim.

I cannot see why Adrian Flux just didn't give me the claim number of the my insurance company in the first place.

Further updates to follow.

Glad to see you are getting somewhere at last. Scott is definitely the man id want to be in your situation so it sounds promising that they will let him do the work. I am also covered by Adrian flux (equity redstar) hopefully now you've spoken to some people it will be a lot better.
Good luck with the rest of the fix and hopefully it's back on the road soon.

Thanks Dan.

Just to clear up, Adrian Flux have not helped at all. I have spent a lot of time and effort sorting this all out.

If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident I would suggest contacting the insurance company direct.

Adrian Flux's claim handlers UKR still hassling me but I'm dealing direct with the 3rd parties insurance and my insurance company.

The 3rd parties insurance are happy for Scott @SG to do the work and will even let the car to be picked up by the chap Scott @SG uses i.e. Covered trailer.

They seem very reasonable to deal with, so far.

Just out of interest what do you mean by hassling you ?

Ringing me trying to get me to use them.

Writing to me saying they are acting on my behalf, although I have not instructed them.

Nothing I can't handle though.
