Abs

Right guy's,

i'm going to get rid off the compleet ABS system and change it to GrN norms. That means that ABS pump/computer goes out, dont know the exact name in englisch but its like the system you have on the R5 with the big round pot and adjustable breakpressure.

Does anyone have suggestions how to start ? Wich breakmaster to use? Done over 1000 km now with the hispecs and they are real good, only the pump cant handle it.

Convert to servo assisted brakes? Have a nosy in the Group N parts catalogue ad see if any of the part numbers match that of the standard parts. Knowing Renault a few of the parts are probably standard bits. I thought about doing it but the ABS is pretty good when it works, also it looks like an arse on a RHD car.

the abs in combination with the big brakes kit sucks, the pump is constantly on.

Robert told me that they used the 2.0 NA "servo-thing-you know". Give's me the opp. to get a bigger breakmastercilinder 2 and in the mean time, change to hydraulic handbrake system.

Is that allowed in UK ?

I think they are a bit iffy on the hydraulic hand brake side of things, they prefer a ratcheting cable, or that the hydraulic level can lock solidly into place...

I could be completely wrong, I think it was just hear say

more than likely correct Lewis, scrap my input!

did a bit of digging around and it looks as though your right Lewis, have to have the cable system present for the MOT tester to be happy.

Now that would depend on the MOT tester

saying that my friend was an MOT tester for years and he thinks it should be fine with just hydraulic 'lock off' type

You would need to retain an operating cable system. Hydraulic handbrake's are NOT good enough for an MOT pass on their own.

As for a master cylinder, I'd probably use a custom unit from AP or Willwood etc of the right size, then adapt it on.

Do AP/Willwood make a master and slave that can be adapted?

I took the Google route and found This and This, would they work?

adjuster needed for that, also avaible. I was looking for that servopot from the older type renault master. That will also work, they use the 22mm breakmastercilinder.

In the mean time, steeringrack will be replaced. Cup one without powersteering. Bye bye pump, usseles weight.

So it's a rebuild for Jo's car then

I been looking into removing the ABS system as well, but as of this month I've put it on hold as I need to get some money together since this happened to the Jedi race car and the repair bill is a lot bigger than the cc!!!
