ABS issue

When I got this car 2 years ago the ABS light would come on at around 115mph.

The speed the abs fails at has dropped and it now comes on at around 75-80mph.

Today I cleaned up all the targets as this is the most likely cause, but this did not help the issue.

What else can I try?

Has a similar problem some years ago, but only in wet weather. Traced to a small abrasion on a front ABS sensor lead which exposed one of the conductors. Can only suggest you look at connectors for corrosion, and examine leads for cuts, etc.

And if you have plenty of time, count the target teeth & fine check them because one or two may look OK & and provide a strong enough target for the sensor at slower speeds, but at higher driveshaft rpm those poor condition target teeth get mis read and generate a fault.

3 of the targets look in very good condition, the N/S/R target is looking a bit dodgy, few of the teeth missing/damaged and also appears quite brittle.

Is this difficult to change?

I believe you can knock them off, well I know you can on the fronts anyway.

or get a 2nd hand hub, or buy new (100quid!)

Hammer and chisel, and a bit of care. Bash the back edge of the ring where it joins the hub.
Take the old one off first so you can see how best to separate the spare if you do it that way.

All targets need to have clear ridges and falls for it to work right at high speed. 96 teeth is a lot and newer systems use less making the ridges bigger and more robust....this was an early system.
