Megane 99 convertible - fitting a 225 engine

Not sure if this is the right place but here goes anyway

Hi - I joined to learn about the Megane 225 engine management

Have a 99 convertible in Yellow with Blue leather - engine is the 2 litre 16v - looking at the 225 engine

It already has Brembo's on 325 discs up front and 253 vented rears
Have coilovers on the front and made spacers to lower the rear
Plain 5 spoke 17" wheels
Also has a "road box" in place of rear seat and a quality stereo

Started to look at Vauxhall or Saab turbo engines as the 225 seems hard to come by but
Might have found something

The big question with all the modern ecu's is the integration with other stuff like the dash
Which is not helpful ~ is this the case with the 225?

Would have to go stand alone ecu with the GM engines ~ hoping to avoid that if possible

I have quite good facilities and experience but can always learn more
Pretty much retired now so have time too

All help and advice gratefully received

Regards

Neil

If you want to use oem megane ecu then you will have the headache of using an immobiliser emulator. As far as i know the mk1 megane is pre canbus then gettting the oem dash working ok is not a problem regardless of ecu used.

What are your goals power wise and what are you planning to use it for. I think you would benefit from a good standalone ecu regardless of what engine you use.

Saab is an excellent choice but fabrication needed and tall engine so may cause issues. Megane 225 will fit in easier and easy to find usually but if overall power is your goal then you will need to use the stronger 6 speed gearbox which needs fabrication to fit. Vag 20vt is also another option.

I'm not looking to go mad with this - just think a little over 200 turbo horses will be way more fun than the stock 150 it has now.

If I get the 225, think I would just leave it as is - so no messing with re-maps etc

If it's just a chip key - can work with that but dash and body module is more of a problem

I've been restoring vintage Bentley's for the last 20 years or there abouts so fabrication is not a problem.
Have a spot welder - plasma cutter - nice tube bender - welder etc so there isn't much I can't do

I tried to buy a car on ebay but something went wrong - bid didn't register and it's not the first time.
Can only assume I left it too late and the net was slow for some reason

Might have to shelve this for now as my offer on another Jag XJR engine was accepted
I have a 53 Ford F100 pickup to restore hense the V8 - so will need to make some time for that
when the engine turns up

Can i find "Brigsy" on here or some project info maybe?

Not considered a 172 engine can be close to 200bhp and a pretty simple swap or just a low boost turbo kit with an efi module will see 230bhp.

I have a bit of a list of projects to do -

have small off-road thing with a 2 litre Mondeo engine in the back
needs to be tidied up and sold

need to finish off my Jeep CJ7 so it can be used

right now - getting my Chevy S10 Crewcab ready to use - been stored up for a couple of years
then I can sell the S10 we currently use for towing

then there's the 53 ugly truck - already done loads but still needs many more hours and quids

might have a Land Rover series 2 to restore for a friend as well

the Richy Beno might have to take a back seat for a bit - going to try and get it unde cover
hopefully it won't get any worse
