6.5k.... What car would you buy?

The Mk1 is quite nice to drive to, but I only had a really short ride in one what belonged to a friend. Not that much power than the Mk2 but still nice and the look is fantastic. Easily tunable to.

Certainly wouldn't be a French rattlebox......ive always hankered after a 350Z

I scratched the 350z itch a few years back. The one you want is the later 309bhp HR model, came out mid 2007 until they replaced the 350z with the 370z. The 370z basically has the same engine as the HR but 3.7 rather than 3.5litre. I paid £16.5k for mine a few years back, then part ex`d it for my current daily 18 months later for 9 grand. So lost £7.5k in 18months. Coupled with £500+ a year road tax, £250 for set of brake pads and £700 for set of tyres they arnt cheap to run. I was using mine as my daily, doing 450 miles a week in it. You have to run it on super unleaded and at 17->22mpg it was killing me. I worked out all in, including insurance, depreciation, fuel etc it was costing me in the region of £1400 a month. Which was 3 times what my mortgage was at the time.

They arnt bad cars, I had the roadster one, so it was fun with the roof down listening to that v6 redline at 7500rpm and the exhaust note, but it just never felt like a quick car. 0-60 is in 5.something, but it just didnt feel like that. Maybe it was because its NA and so you dont get that kick in the pants a turbo would give you. The only other thing I found with it, and its the same on my wifes 2011 Nissan Juke, is that the metal they seem to use for nuts & bolts & stuff rusts like mad. I changed the exhaust on my 350z which was just 4 years old and had only done 22k miles at the time and the underside of the car looked like some rusty old heap that had been dragged out of a lake. I couldnt believe it. My 12 year old 175k mile golf i had before that still looked brand new underneath.

The HR model still fetches £9k upwards so bit out of your budget, but you could get an older 276bhp model in your price range and with a few mods & a remap you can get it up to 300bhp. Personally though id probably be looking at something else though.

Cheers pal, 2 new children and a new house have put paid to any new toys lol

I'll look like ive given up on life shortly when I'm sat behind the wheel of a C Max or similar haha

Running costs akin to my E36 M3...18mpg and a penchant for making me look like I'd stolen it....naughty car ;)

Hence my wife having the "sensible" car. Leaving me to have what I want as my car! :) Only problem I have is that I really need a back seat for the child seat/s occasionally and thats about it.

Yeah shes getting a CRV or something Japanese and reliable while I get the 21.
Sounds good. Our Juke is coming up to 4 years old soon so the wifes on about getting a QuashQai. Im not too sure to be honest, but she`ll be the one driving it the most, not me.

Sooo much i could choose from, but i guess it would be between a Z32 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo SWB with glass roof, or a mint Clio Williams.
