6.5k.... What car would you buy?

It is boring. Its mundane. Its nowt to look out , doesnt sound like anything special either.
e30 m3 - different case.
m5 of any era - different case.

Never had any issue at all with my meg. .

Always amuses when folk refer to Japanese stuff as Jap Crap......they produce the complete opposite of crap. Crap breaks down and doesnt function, Japanese electrics last, the engines take the kind of tuning and abuse most us can only dream about.....us Renault boys go mental for anything over 300bhp, while in Japan they have sewing machines doing that.

Anyone would think car production ended and a m'fers gave up after the R26.

I think its more a phrase , than fact :)

I would dearly love a rx7 20b. That would be mental fast , great to look at as well !

Parts seem cheaper in Japan ? or is that a myth ?

My experience of the Japanese is that parts are expensive because they sell so few of them.
A centre console lid for a Prius is just shy of a grand not because they are £1000 but because they get no money back on mechanical parts due to cars being so reliable.

Drive a GT86 and tell me its soulless and boring.

Renault parts arent what I would call cheap either mate.....theyve just relieved me of £86 for nuts bolts n washers.
They want £147 for a tin sump for my 21 and the front bumper is still over a grand with VAT.

I meant after market parts - tein / apexi / etc etc. Not OEM parts.

I wasnt argueing against the jap stuff being boring - the german stuff is boring in my opinion.

I know all about renault tax. Bits on my meg are expensive.

I am finding these days I can afford dream cars, such as m5/rs6/gtr but running them ? The parts would bankrupt me

I agree my M3 was effective but I wouldn't say boring once the taps were opened.

Went wrong a lot though...mind you it suffered greatly haha

after car shopping for the past 6 weeks i think you would really struggle to find a good meg for 2k tbh. i could of been unlucky but the 4/5 i viewed recently have been nails to just rough, between 1700 and 2600. you could get lucky though, i just wasnt. 3k+ will see you right though

2k on a Meg 225.... Coilovers, buckets.... 3k on engine mods? Track slag...
Diff. Do not forget the diff.

Expanding on it.

2k for a nail.
£500 to sort pads and discs all around
£500 to sort the belts
£100 for misc other parts ( exhaust hangers + service items )
£150 for intercooler
£345+vat for remap
£300 for decat
£300 for seats
£50 for air filter
£900 for diff ( not a r26 box as they are rare ! )
£680 for a r26r setup clutch

That just got expensive quick ! £5825.

Personally , I would buy a r26 with the diff already in.

Come join the 225 club mate :) You certainly won't need to spend £3k to turn it into a good track car either...as I shall prove :D

Not sure the R26's diff is worth coughing up the extra £3/4/5k+ over the 225 model, and not when you can install a Quaife unit for 700 sobs. In a similar vane, the R26 Trendline seats look nicer, but general consensus seems to be they're not that supportive as a track seat. £100 for a cheapy Cobra Monaco if looking at a 'budget but ok' track seat, but will probably become a pain in the arse (literally!) if driving daily.

Horses for courses though; depends what you want from the car.

Going from experience of previous track cars, a set of upgraded front pads & decent brake fluid will usually suffice, assuming discs are in good condition of course. Certainly never felt the need to upgrade/upsize the discs on previous GTT's, T-cup & the old Evo 6, and I don't exactly pootle around a track. Needless to say, I'll be sticking with o.e discs on the Megane.

OE discs are great.
Pads on the other hand ;)

I might also argue there is slightly more to the r26 than chairs and a diff ;)

Ok, and the LG paint ;-)

I guess it's the same adage as to whether the 26r is worth £10k+ more than its fatter sibling...
