25 year old, struggling to get decent quotes

Hi all, first post from me.

I admit I am fairly new to cars. I have got 4 years NCB on my motorbike, but I have only been driving for 18 months, so I have 1 year's NCB on the car.

I pay £170 TPFT on my superbike and quotes for an 03 255 V6 are coming in at £3500. I thought being 25 helped!

I guess I could try putting my old man as the policy, and me as a named driver but I'd rather not muck about and do it the straight way. I'm a sensible driver and the 255 would be my Sunday treat alongside my daily slag of a Mk3 Golf.

Do you have any suggestions for a decent quote? I'd consider anything under £1500, decent.

Thanks in advance.

Tried Carole Nash and Confused. No-one on Confused would quote for some reason.

I'll try Elephant and let you know, thanks!

Hi and Welcome.....have a poke around the Insurance section hun, makes for some interesting reading as far as insurance is concerned....

I reckon every Q you have regarding insurance is in that section....there's plenty of suggestions also, of insurance brokers and companies to try......Confused won't quote you because of your 'age' - it's also worth noting that one of the biggest factors for insurance quotes is your "POSTCODE"....if it's dodgy, your quote goes through the roof.....

I hope you get sorted soon....enjoy the forum.... :D

This seems to good to be true ...

Im 23 with 5 NCB protected and is a fair bit more than this. Live in a good area aswell.

Tried elephant when i changed over and was over £1400.

I would check all the details are correct mate.

all details are correct (i had to double check cos i was shocked aswell), i have 5 yrs no claims and will keep the car garaged, it was the best quote by far.

Thanks for your replies. I'm in a good postcode, I'm sure of that. I think what's crippling me is my lack of car NCB and experience, that's why I was thinking possibly a broker or a V6 specialist would take into account the whole scenario, rather than just filling in boxes on a website.

If you put a parent on the insurance, does this generally bring down the cost and if so, you you become a named driver and they become the main policy holder, or..?

i would say try elephant first cos we done a quote in my fellas name aswell to see what way round would be cheaper too do the insurance and for him it was £1067 fully comp in his name and hes 22 with 1 years no claims, which is a bargain really :D

Thanks for the tips. I tried Elephant with my standard info and the quote was £3000.

When I use my 60 year-old Father, it brings it down to £1300. So he has a use afterall!

I'm happy with that, so all I need to do is start the hunt for a circa £16k 255.

Just remember that the policy holder is assumed to be the principal driver ... and so come claim time when the insurance company is wriggling and trying to find a way to avoid paying out ...

Thanks for the tip. To be honest, the old man will probably use it during the week while I'm at work and I'll use it on the weekends. So I get what you're saying but reckon I'll be legit.

I've been quoted £840 with Herts, they insure me on my R5's so maybe it helps to have more than 1 policy with them? I'm 26 full NCB...

I've been quoted around £1100 from Elephant for a mk1, I'm 25 and only got a 1 years ncb. Thats leaving it in a communal car park in what i'd call an aerage post code area.

Is a mk2 likely to be alot more? as I was currently on a mad save/sale mission to raise the extra cash for one!!

Mace....I reckon it's all relative to where you live (postcode) age and NCB's....I don't think there is a guide that you can use....as some guys on here with no NCB's are paying less than some of us with 11/12 years NCB's.....

Insurance appears to be a bit of a 'black-art-form' TBH....as we all seem to find out when our renewals are through....I personally think you've got an okay deal... :)

i done an insurance quote with elephant for a mk1 and a mk2 and it was exactly the same :D

Spinning my vee on weds probably wont help me get a low quote on the vee again - have protected no claims on my FRS but as the vee is on a separate policy i think it'll be going up  My worst concern is that even if my vee is repairable dont reckon i'll be able to afford fully comp insurance on both the FRS & the vee

Elephant - you can fiddle your quote by adding drivers and changing how much of an excess you want to pay, mileage, no claims etc.

I just got my renewal for £722.....bargain!
