That's what happens when you use ally to do the job of steel.

Not exactly reknowned for its high abrasion resistance and fatigue strength
 
indeed neal indeed.

thats why these things are best left on the shelf. Sprint cars and drag toys may have them (amateur level) but they are a no no for endurance etc.

Steel may be heavier but it lasts.

The other issue is you can't clamp them properly either, they creep out of adjustment assuming they don't break first
 
went out and had a look at this today, after tipping the water out of it I had a wee look at it and turned it over.

the spray grease I put on seems to have done the job, bores still clean and not rusty.

Just the crank nose and top face that are rusty. So its salvageable...
