Was out measuring up for some spigot extension collars on my Toyota the other night - car was outside, up on axle stands and it was getting dark. Using a lamp and a set of vernier calipers I was still able to measure tolerances easily to tenths of a mm ...

So this brake business doesn't sound good if I can measure things more accurately outside in the dark ... I'm out ...

I will say though all credit to you Paul, and Max, for persuing this and attempting to pull off an alternate option to OEM discs.

Sorry about all this guys and Max thanks for your help on this.

I will also now need to try and get a refund. Great.

Paul

Why don't you do what i did, just ring K-Tec and be done with it.

I'm very happy with mine, i thought the old ones were good but these really put you through the windscreen when you stamp on the middle peddle

Hey Paul, you have absolutely nothing to be sorry about. You have done everything right and kept people upto date, as has Max.

You should be able to get your brakes sorted, if you carry on working with them, given you know the issues and then if anyone else wants to buy some after then fine. You would think that if they can make one good set for you they should be able to make more, but it may be worth persuing your own set now you have got this far ...

That is easy to say with hindsight now but you have to give credit for someone making some effort to carry out some R&D and incur costs in doing so on behalf of more owners ... I guess you also have to assume that a brake company should be able to make a prototype a bit more accurately, and they have not delivered thus far. People may now very well make the decision to goto K-Tec if necessary.

I wouldn't appologise fella, its obviously not your fault. Just a shame people have let you down with their lack of know how on how to use a tape measure!! If 5hit hit the fan, I know of somebody who will easily knock up some center bells right first time and off the car but I'm not sure on where to get the outer disks made.

I think it is yours and Maxs fault, you are both to blame. Obviously these British engineers you keep blaiming know how to do there jobs  , you should both hang your heads is shame.

No - it's hanging on for just 2 more weeks - Compbrake get one more go to get it right. They've already beaten their previous pick up attempt record by getting it done on the first go so lets see how they get on with getting those fiddly measurements right...

Close it - I have lost patience with Compbrake Simon - I will start a new one if I can find another supplier who can make them correctly and I will get them fitted to the car first.

Cheers

Paul

Out of interest I have the Compbrake catalog in front of me, which I picked up from Chatsworth ...

They don't list a 30mm thick disc at 330mm dia only 28mm and 32mm - this is probably explains why they have supplied a 28 instead of a 30mm - they offer a machining service but only in diameter, not thickness. I am guessing therefore they have a stock sized units and they look like they are Powervane branded. The catalog says they make up the bells to order using their in house CAD/CAM capability so there is no excuse for getting them wrong ...

Soon as i read comp brake i'm out...Had 4 pots on my 172 and wasn't overly impressed. They were very avg!

I must admit if the engineering team cant get these right first time then I think it would be fair to say, no way peddro

Just to bring this to a close;

Compbrake must have purchased a new ruler - new discs and bells arrived last week and they fit properly. So it's taken just under 7 months and 3 attempts to get to this point - I'll leave it to you all to decide, on the basis of the contents of this thread, whether you'd be prepared to buy from Compbrake.

Now have my refined front discs ready to fit. (When I get time!)
