Oh well, should i hold out or just get the K=Tec ones. really need to sort mine as get bad wobble on hard braking.

Might give SG a ring tomorrow morning.

Ok guys just seen what is going on.

I have not had time to try and fit them yet but I am starting to get a little worried by what Max is now saying. I will now pull my finger out and get this sorted.

This weekend is pretty much a certainty for fitting - Max let me know how you get on with Compbrake - if you need to talk to me, please feel free to call me - I have pm'd you my mobile number Max.

I am sorry for messing you all around on this one guys - but I hope you can appreciate that I was just trying to save us all some money. Hopefully we can still proceed with this buy (after speaking to Compbrake) and I will not have just bought some large lumps of uesless metal.

I may have mentioned this to some of you in passing but I have been developing some alternative brake discs for a few months and am pretty much almost there, with the fronts at least. Must admit Paul beat me to it as I was not going to post anything until we have a set up and running on a Vee. Over at the RAOC, of which you will know I am quite involved due to my other cars, we have already developed a range for the Spider and the ALpine's and the Vee was next on the list. Must admit the product and price will be pretty similar to what Paul has done here but would underline that it is not produced by Compbrake and they are using my discs as a pattern. We should be able to arrange a group buy from the RAOC.
Hope it goes alright at the weekend Paul and please let us all know as soon as poss but if there is a problem, we may have an alternative on its way.
More details to follow.

Quick update on this;

I have spoken to Brett this morning and expressed my "disappointment" regarding their problems using a measuring stick!

He's apparently looking at the drawings and rather than me leave the ball in their court I've told him I'll ring him back in 2 hours and will be expecting an answer. I've explained that this is not only an issue for blueboy and myself but is also about to see a potential group buy collapse.

The problem is compounded because it is not simply a case of supplying the rotor in the correct thickness - the bells which determine the disc offset will have been machined based on the 32mm thick rotor; put a 30mm thick rotor in and the disc will move back towards the hub...

Just another quick point - don't for any minute think that these sort of problems are unique to Compbrake. Problems such as:

1) Long lead times
2) Missed delivery timescales
3) Inability to return calls
4) Stupid technical errors even when provided with all the information

seem to be pretty much endemic within this industry and is why I tend to try and order things months in advance of when I actually need them...

Ok all -
Compbrake have made a mistake and they are, to be fair, doing their best to correct it so they are collecting the discs and bells on Friday and at the same time are dispatching new discs and bells in the correct size(s). I doubt they'll get here prior to the weekend but I will test fit them as soon as they do...

Max

Are they sorted does anyone know Id be intrested but want to know they have been tested and are ok, also do they have a replacment disc price for future proffing the purchase?

Whats the final price delivered?
Do they recommend a pad to suit?

Dont forget guys brakes are one of the most important parts of the car if not they most important

I will speak to Compbrake on Monday/Tuesday as well (probably Tuesday) - so update on Wednesday.

Max keep me informed and I will you.

Cheers

Paul

Quick update...

Compbrake managed to send Parcelforce to my old address so the discs/bells were not collected on Friday. They have assured me that they will be collected tomorrow and that the new ones should also be with me "shortly". When/if they arrive I'll will do a test fit (once the rains lets up) and will let you all know...

Ok - I have spoken to Compbrake as well and he has confirmd the same to me.

He will arrange for someone to pick them up and send me corrected replacements.

Hopefully then this group buy can still be a goer.

Max andy luck yet?

Paul

Any news yet?? I changed my pads last night but im sooooOOOoooo desperate for disks now that I think im going to have to go K-tec [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif]

Ok - here we go...

Discs were finally collected on Friday - they would not send the "right" ones until they had the old ones back. Warning rant mode about to be engaged...

This problem was raised with Compbrake on the 22nd of April; they've "arranged" collection of the old discs a total of 5 times before it actually happened; they've had to be chased constantly in order to get anywhere; they made a 2mm error on measuring the original disc which I sent to them to avoid exactly the problems I've/we've ended up with - frankly it's not very impressive - after all +/- 2mm is absolutely huge tolerance when we're talking about braking systems

Irrespective of whether the discs are right this time from a personal point of view I'd only use them again if I had no other choice I'm afraid...

Must admit, due to just being too busy at the mo and with the guy concerned in Macon at the weekend I still have not got my hands on these, but we have done the pricing. Please note the term 'member' refers to an RAOC member although Stephen will accomodate a bulk buy if enough members here want to organise it.

these are the prices:
These are getting expensive now from Renault and we have had them remanufactured as two piece rotors and bells as a line with our other brake kits:

Here are the options:

these are standard on piece genuine discs
OEM Renault supplied £446.25 + VAT PAIR
OEM Renault RAOC supplied £399 + VAT PAIR
OEM Renault RAOC Member £385 + VAT PAIR

Two piece rotor and aluminium bell:

330mm rotor Straight vein £126 + VAT
330mm rotor Curved vein £137 + VAT
330mm bell Anodised £100 + VAT
330mm bell Plain £88 + VAT

Anodised in a colour of you choice. eg red, blue, silver, yellow.

All mix and match:

Examples:

330mm Curved vein Rotor + 330mm Anodised bell = £237 + VAT
£474 + VAT PAIR

330mm Straight vein Rotor + 330mm Machine bell = £214 + VAT
£428 + VAT PAIR

Prices include the hardware kit i.e. 24 special nuts and bolts to fit the rotors to the bells.

The other advantage is that when they wear next time you can just change the rotor.

These are high quality discs and bells. The curved vein rotors are AP equivalent quality.

RAOC Members less 10% on the above rotor and bell prices.

Group buy prices also available on request.

Just to confirm, these are not produced by Compbrake and have had my front disc for a pattern. Will post a fitted photo just as soon as I get them fitted and will not be making any orders until they are up and running on my car.

SimonLm - I will find out the answers to your questions tomorrow - however I agree with Max and did question the sizes when I first contacted them.

Once I have mine back and have tried to fit them, I will still ask if anyone is still interested though.

Paul

I've gone with the K-tec discs as needed them due to using my car everyday, so i'm out of the group buy.

But good luck chap's hope these work out in the end.
