Hi, I'm new to this forum and am asking this for my neighbours who do not have internet facilities.
They have a 1984 Renault Trafic Autosleeper, 1647cc Petrol, FWD, and the gearbox (5-speed) has disintegrated and cannot be reconditioned. I've searched and realise that a replacement will be difficult, but some sites suggest that other Renault models such as the Fuego or even Volvo models may share the same engine.
The engine number is 4108. I haven't found that fact useful at all in my searching, and I don't know if it has a 841/A1M engine which some sites say is possible for the 1984 Trafic. I see the Renault Fuego might have a 841/A2M 1647cc engine. What is the difference and could the gearbox fit?
Can anyone be specific about which other cars may have gearboxes that would do?
Thanks a lot in advance.
