1984 Renault Fuego Turbo Coupe has NEW HOME!

Hello everyone.. We are Arthur & Ana Netteler, from West Texas, USA.. We just became the Owners of a 1984 Renault Fuego Turbo Coupe.. The car has been parked in a heated garage, covered with blanket & a Car Cover in Rochester, New York, USA, from April 1988, until we picked her up last Friday (09/10/2021). The Original Owner parked her when his son went off to College in April 1988 and he never came back to the car. His father kept it in their Private Garage all these years. At the Father's passing last month. The Family had to remove the car to sell the Property. I was contacted by a Friend in New York to see if I wanted the Fuego.. it has ACTUAL mileage of only 48,184.. I started today to go through the Running Gear and remove and clean the Fuel System, as the gas in 33 YEARS OLD...hahaha.. Engine is in fantastic condition!.
Question I have is HOW do I drop the Fuel Tank, the Spare Tire Rack in in the way? Can not figure out how to remove the two inner clips that the Tire Rack mounts into..

It’s been about 20 years since I dropped a tank on a fuego

I can’t remember if I used to leave the cage dangle or remove it

If you can get a photo it might jog my mind

The car had been Posted on autotrader.com on Sept. 2. I happen to be looking at the Renault pages when the banner popped onto the top.. I messaged and then he called me. Bought it 2 hours later through PayPal.
I checked the Engine, pulled the Rocker Cover and Plugs.. Everything was in NEW condition, even used my Scope Camera to look into Cylinders. Not stuck Valves and no rust on anything.. Hand cranked the engine 2 revs. after oiling the Cylinders. All Rockers have correct Gap and no sign of anything in the Cylinders top to bottom. I think I will unplug the Fuel pump Relay and try spinning the engine with starter (without Plugs). Then maybe give it a squirt of fuel into intake after closing up the top-end & Plugs. Would be so sweet to hear that engine fire up even if there is not turbo connected yet. See what kind of Oiling we get and pressure.

We started the Engine today.. The FIRST TIME TO RUN since April 1988.. I ran it after checking the Top End, Cylinders & Turbo was Pre-Lubed with Marvel Mystery Oil. We unhooked the fuel Pump to prevent and GUNKY Gas from being shoved though the system. Will deal with Fuel tank, lines and controls next week. Everything was fine on the 10 minutes I ran the Engine (3times) on squirt bottle.

Excellent, thats a big hurdle crossed. Was there coolant in the engine when it was sat? Did it have proper coolant in it as thats also a corrosion inhibitor. My R9 sat for 15 years witha strong coolant mix in it and when I stripped it the cooling system was still as good as new.
