Got what sounded like a belt rubbing/whirring coming from the driver side rear wheel arch when I started the Vee this morning. Its a very short drive to work however it was still doing it when I got here.
Well, I finally got round to taking my car into Renault regarding this noise. Left it overnight as the noise is alot more prominent when the car is first started in the morning. As per usual they didnt call me to tell me it was ready to collect, so I called at about 1pm and was told that its my Auxilliary Belt squeaking. He also said that it would not be covered under warranty??
So my questions are.
1) How can they be sure its the auxillary belt when they did nothing more than start it? The noise isnt affected by revs, wouldn't that mean its not the aux belt?
2) If it is the aux belt why isn't it covered under warranty? And shouldn't they have to properly investigate it under warranty?
Lastly, in the short period of time they had the car they have managed to ground the front bumper good and proper, its actually noticable when stood infront of the car!
Needless to say, I'm f**king fuming.
Answers on a postcard please. Oh and a note to Suggs....I wouldn't take your car to them mate!
This is quite common on many cars, usually the aux belt is dry and simply makes a squeeking or whirring noise. I tend to just spray a small amount of WD40 on it - works a treat
I haven't done this on the Vee yet but on other cars no worries ...
Belt tension can also impact whether the noise happens or not, the belt can tend to stretch a bit. I have always assumed the noise is cause the belt is made of a rubber type compound and it is simply rubbing on the pulleys ...
You take your own choice as to what you do though ...
Mine very rarely makes a wirring noise coming from the back but only when the a/c is on. Think it is the same thing has only happened twice with a 6 month period in between....
I get this when its cold started in a morning, more than likely that its because the belt is cold and therefore shrinks slightly increasing the tension..
Also hard plastic/rubber material of the belt is more likely to make a squeaky noise when its cold
Thats what i put mine down to..
Defiantly not as bad on a warmer morning, but when i started it the other day and it was 3 degrees outside it was even louder, goes very quickly..
Im not worried about mine as it goes very quickly (as soon as the belt get a little bit of heat into it..
