Incorrect. Viscosity is given in a standard format as you know, like 10w60. The number preceding the W is the viscosity at -17.8 Celsius, the lower the number, the thinner it is in the cold.

The numbers after the W is viscosity at 100 Celsius and represent the oil’s resistance to thinning at high temperature. The higher the number, the thicker it is at 100°

On a GT Turbo i'd probably go for a 5W for decent cold circulation (unless you live somewhere very cold) and a 50 for hot, because the old 1960's engine design and tolerances wont like super thin oil when hot and pressure will drop off. I wouldn't be shy of a 60 if I expected to beat the shit out of it on track.
I would NOT use 50 or 60 in a modern engine like the F4r, for that i'd go for a 0W30 or 5W30.

This is simply about viscosity at temperature x, and what is suited to your engine based on design, age, tolerances, wear levels and usage. You can base it from the OE recommended and then allow for the aforementioned parameters and technological improvements in the interim. As said above, I use a 5W50 in my J7R and always fully synthetic.
