What are the differences between the 225/230/R26 core engines and the 250/265/275 core engines?

I know the 250 onward have better pistons and rods, but could I (for example) rebuild a 225 base engine with forged pistons and rods for a 250 car?

Basically we have a 250 with a fecked engine and 250 engines are just nowhere to be seen. What are the options?

Renault want five grand for a new lump so that's a no goer. Rebuilding this one is an option but with a bent rod and 4L of water in the sump we're looking at multiple points of failure and a lot of unknowns and the car was bought as a non runner.

I think the head was different, potentially the vvt side of it, if I recall...

Just about everything of importance is different.

As pointed head it for the VVT ( but can be deleted. )

I would hold out TBH

Head is a fair bit different with vvt as said above, cams, inlet, fuel rail, dephaser pulley etc and thats just the obvious bits.

Just hold out for a full engine or strip down existing, Might only need a set of pistons and rods. Patience lol

If you put a 225 lump in even rebuilt it will substantially devalue the car too so once you take that into account and 1 or 2 unforeseen problems will probably cost much the same.
