What's It Worth?

Its funny how the values have shot up on these of the past 2 years....

What would a high mileage ph1 or 2 , say 60k but good condition go for? Or to put it another way what is a "you got a cracking price there buddy" value?
£12k roughly 2 years ago, so now it will have had the belts done etc so will, as you say about the trends, be worth considerably more :approve:

I think that the Vee market is pretty weird at the moment, maybe because it is in transition between new-car-getting-older and classic / collector car.

I would definitely be looking for a Ph1 car, as they are just as much fun on the road, arguably look better, and are 50% - 70% the price of a Ph2 car, and I'm sure that situation won't last long.

The real bargain stuff, if you buy carefully, has to be in the 'Cat D repaired' market. This Ph1 sold a couple of weeks ago for £7500, and looked superb. It was a very well looked after car before having a small accident, and it only needed a door skin and sill cover, with a partial respray, to put it back to excellent contion...no metalwork damage at all:

Maybe it's because I play with old Lotus Cortinas and sporty Escorts, that usually need 60% plus of the bodyshell replacing, but I really don't understand why a car that had so little damage, and been repaired properly, is so cheap!

I paid approximately half for my Ph1 than I paid for my Ph2, and I can't really see the value difference. The Ph2 is worth every penny, but the Ph1 has to be seriously undervalued currently.

Sorry to go off topic slightly but what does the steering wheel look like? Any pictures?

Sounds a very good V6 and clearly had a LOT of work done which is brilliant for any owner surely no need to do all of that again in 5 years time.

It depends on how quick you want to sell it imo.

If you are looking to cash it in quickly I think you'll get 10k for it but 11.5k if you hold out for someone that's actively looking for one.

I've only seen a few ph1s pop up for sale lately which have have been CAT D or C or not so desirable due to other reasons but yours sounds like a nice looked after car.

It is weird this Phase 1/Phase 2 debate. Both are superb cars in their own right.

I sometimes wonder if the constant talk of the Phase 2 being a 'better' car has just hyped up the prices of the Phase 2 over the Phase 1. I'm not being critical to anyone who has a Phase 2, not at all! It's just a thought.

One thing to bear in mind though is that history has shown that over time that any car be it a Mark 1, Phase 1, etc, call it what you may, has become the more sought after variant: MK 1 Mini, MK1 Cortina, Mk1 Escort, MK1 Golf GTi, Clio Williams 1...Let's wait and see!

The question is!
Who is it hyping up the phase 2
I'm thinking of stripping mine and having a bare metal respray to try and put some value on this undesirable model, as colour is everything [smilie=thanks.gif]
