I think that the Vee market is pretty weird at the moment, maybe because it is in transition between new-car-getting-older and classic / collector car.
I would definitely be looking for a Ph1 car, as they are just as much fun on the road, arguably look better, and are 50% - 70% the price of a Ph2 car, and I'm sure that situation won't last long.
The real bargain stuff, if you buy carefully, has to be in the 'Cat D repaired' market. This Ph1 sold a couple of weeks ago for £7500, and looked superb. It was a very well looked after car before having a small accident, and it only needed a door skin and sill cover, with a partial respray, to put it back to excellent contion...no metalwork damage at all:

Maybe it's because I play with old Lotus Cortinas and sporty Escorts, that usually need 60% plus of the bodyshell replacing, but I really don't understand why a car that had so little damage, and been repaired properly, is so cheap!
I paid approximately half for my Ph1 than I paid for my Ph2, and I can't really see the value difference. The Ph2 is worth every penny, but the Ph1 has to be seriously undervalued currently.
