What is this switch under my dash?

Hi
Popped my head under glovebox of my mk1 v6 tonight and found a add on switch for something? There are 2 wires going into switch one is red and black and the other is just black. Both of the coming out of the loom. Any ideas? I've added a photo.

Thanks
Daniel.

Hi Daniel,

Looks like a DIY job for something? I guess you've tried it?

Do the side pod fans come on with it maybe?

Hi James,
No not yet! When I found it it was switched on and the side pod fan does work. I was wondering would it be something to do with the tracker?

Daniel.

I read one of the previous owners old posts, was plagued with the alarm going off all the time, there may be a possibility that he did a "fix" ?

If it's the tracker my guess is that switch would be in the off position?
Can you follow the wires to the tracker unit?

Ah yes alarm cut off does make sense. I`ll give it a go Tomorrow. How would one switch the alarm on? I've had the car for about a year but only done 600 miles and have not had much time to learn about the car. Any info would be grateful?

Thanks

Normally the alarm would be armed once you lock the car up.

I will let some of our more technical guys try to answer than one Daniel. Given the car's history, things may not be as they should.

Hi Daniel,

I'm not a complete expert, but I may be able to help.

Do you know for sure that the alarm is disabled?

Cheers,
Phil.

Hi Phil

Apologies for late reply, I have traced the switch back to the alarm and it does cancel the alarm. I`m not sure why it was done as the alarm seems to work fine. I have mounted a new neat switch under the dash in case one day I`ll need it off.

Thanks.
