what is the best RIM for Phase 1

Hi Guys,

May i know what is the best size for Phase 1 clio v6. Planning to use the car for track occasionally.


Can anyone recommend best offset, size and width? THank you so much
 
I'd say OEM 17" wheels. Leaves you with a slightly easier/cheaper track day tyre option. Only benefit of fitting 18" in my opinion is the chance to fit bigger brakes which arent really needed.
 
Stability? Hardly. I'd personally say thats more down to the chassis setup. Generally speaking, the bigger the wheel, the less dynamic and tactile a car will feel. I'd always fit a smaller wheel with a good size tyre both in profile and width.
Mine is fitted with 255/40/17 rears and 225/45/17 fronts. There was definatly an improvement in handling switching to the wider tyres for me. Makes me wonder why other dont do it personally. I have the option of putting 18"s on but I'll only do that for asthetics and should I need to fit bigger discs. 255's on the rear of a ph1 will be about as wide as you can go before touching the strut spring and rubbing the arch at full bump. There's no point in going much wider for the front as the lack of weight doesnt warrant it.
 
So the widest i can go is 255/40/17 rears and 225/45/17 fronts without rubbing? if so i will try your setup. Thanks for the advice
 
I'd say thats all I can fit under my rear arches comfortably for sure. With wheel shims and camber adjustment you might beable to squeeze a very small ammount more in there but you'll gain next to nothing, more inside tyre wear and you'll need wider wheels. I'd be focused more on getting the car balanced better first as opposed to fitting the maximum ammount of rubber.

For tire size of 225/45/17 on the front, can i put spacer? i was thinking of putting 10-15mm spacer. Is it ok?
 
Only one way of finding out and thats trial fitment. To memory, i don't think they are needed unless your going for asthetics. Its worth remembering that spacers on the front using original offset wheels can play around with the suspension geometry when under load and changing direction.
