I would just as a matter of precaution as if it goes a week after replacing your cambelt - it means your going to take off the belt again if that makes sense.
Plus most of the labour will be done for belt anyway so shouldnt be too much extra.
Let us know what prices you get to change and where so I know for when mine is due.
general opinion is get it done while the engine is out,
any1 got thoughts on the clutch, i know a few have said get that done aswell, my vee wont be much past 15k miles when the belt gets done, any thoughts??
I think in reality a water pump replacement being needed is more down to the mileage (number or rotations) it does rather than time-span it has been installed. Assuming the anit-freeze mix is high to prevent corrosion of the impeller - it is on the Vee due to the all alloy engine. Since Vees tend to have to have their belts changed at 5 years rather than the 72k miles (or whatever it is as I forgot) there is probably a lack of evidence as to the actual need to change the pump.
It does seem though, that the concensus is to replace the water pump at the same time as the cam-belt - probably more down to convenience and risk avoidance rather than there being any clear evidence of them failing. If the cost of the pump is relatively speaking low (it certainly is compared to the resulting damage if it failed) - then I have to admit it might make sense to go with the lemmings (figure of speach) on this one ...
I think the same also goes for the clutch too, I will probably replace at least the friction plate when my cam-belt is due.
when i changed the cambelt on mine, we changed the water pump, the old pump had a tight spot in it when you span it, so it was well worth changing. I also had the auxillary belt changed along with the pulleys and adjusters that go with it. Dead easy to do while the engines out, just a thought. I did'nt bother with the clutch, it felt too good and only relatively low miles so decided it would be fine for now, hope this helps
