V8 Muscle car....

Pretty sure one of the coils has gone, sounds like an old school V8. Spoken to local Stealer, they have no coils in stock, can't get anything done until tuesday. They said they will replace the damaged one(s) under warranty, i said change'em all but they won't. I can almost guarantee the next time one goes, the warranty will have run out.

Spoke to a mechanic at another renault garage, he agreed that Renault did have a bad batch of coils so changed from Sagem to Bosch. Seems crazy not to change all six sagem coils.

I changed all 8 of mine last month for peace of mind. Bought 8 new coils for 160 inc VAT and sold my old ones on Ebay for 70 quid so only cost me 90!!

Worth it so I don't really have to worry now..well touch wood, anyway [smilie=bowdown.gif]

Spoke to Renault in Canterbury, they had coils in stock but its a good twenty minute drive so they advised i get the AA to tow the Vee in. Waited an hour for the first guy in a van, couldn't tow it so he got a loader in (another hours wait), but the guy refused to take my car as it was too low and he had nearly cracked the rear bumper trying to tow it backwards. He said it would be another 1-2 hours to get a truck with a crane lift [f*ck that!] So, i told him to leave, then proceeded to limp all the way to the stealer, once there though, they were superb. Seemed really chuffed to work on a vee, popped a new coil in, signed some warranty paperwork. Job done, all in the space of 3.5hours on a saturday.

The mechanic knew there is an issue with the coils but towed the official Renault line; "there are no known faults with V6 coils" (cue a knowing glance). I asked if they could change all the coils but they said they couldn't. Really impressed with the level of service there, will be using them from now on.
