V6 Mk1 or Mk2

Hi

After 10 years of lusting I am now looking to purchase a V6.

Ideally after a Mk2 in either Luna, Mars or Acid but would also consider a Mk1 in Mars or IB.

I'm looking for a straight care, no cat C or D in extremely good condition. I'm not worried if the odd thing needs doing such as belts, wheels refurbed etc. Full SH is a must. As for millage, preferably under 30k.

Now, just to confirm that I am not a dealer. Just someone who has admired the look and quirkiness of the V since I first spotted one over 10 years ago at my local dealers. The car will be kept and cared for long term.

Anyway, so if you are looking to sell either now or perhaps within the next 6 or so months please contact me, I've waited this long so am willing to wait for the right car.

As for how much I'm looking to spend, lets say I'm realistic but I'm also not interested in spending £35k on an ornament. Cars are made to be driven and seen in my opinion, especially something as wonderful as a V...

If you are looking for an ID colour with under 30k then u will be looking at the thick end of 30k

To my knowledge there is only 1 or 2 Acid & lunar under 30k miles.

Straight mars reds are also a rare beast nowadays, the only one I can think of under 30k is Colin's ( who may be persuaded to part with his)
Again I expect u will have to part with 25k +

If you are after value for money combined with rarity then I would be looking at a mars Ph1

Hope this helps & good luck with the search.

You have more chance finding a mars ph2 than any other. You will struggle to find the others unless Keir still wants to sell his Lunar.

Hi

Thanks for the replies...

Yes, given the quantity of Ph2 Mars produced compared to Acid and Lunar it should be the easier to find but hay, if you don't ask to don't get.

I have pm'd Keir regarding his Lunar but no reply as of yet and looking at his post, it seems that a couple of other people pm'd him at the time and never received a reply.

Having just totted it up after having a think about it, If your seriously rigid on the above parameters, I reckon your looking at a pool of around 15 ph2s & 10 ph1s, and thats allowing for cars that I havent heard about for a good few years, so the numbers could be less.

I reckon a high proportion these are also 'keepers'. So your literally looking at 5 or maybe 10 cars out of approx 400 vee in the UK.

Of the top of my head I can only think of 1 car that has gone for sale on PH/ebay or Autotrader in the past two years that meets your requirements, and even that had partial service history.

If your flexible on colour & miles you will likely find a car that meets your needs. Condition is king!

Thanks for all the info...

There is a little room for movement on the millage. I have been and still am in two minds about black and understand that this would be a far easier colour to aquire. There is a nice black one in the for sale section that I keep looking at. Don't know if its still available but the millage is a little higher than I ideally wanted but if the condition and history is as stated it seems competitively priced.

Hi Grant,

It's worth considering that Mars was unloved a few years ago and now it's red hot. On that basis, colour might be considered less of a consideration for anyone looking for a long-termer.

The Vee experience is special in either model and in any colour.

If I were in your shoes it would be a toss up between buying the best VFM 'any colour' and letting it grow on you or finding the right money for your perfect choice.

Good luck with the search!

Regards
Kett

I personally think that illiad & liquid are the iconic Ph2 colours & will be most sort after in years to come.

Personally Acid Yellow is by far my fav colour!

I have been lucky enough to be one of the privileged few that have owned one :)

I was looking to get another Acid or Lunar for my 2nd V6 but I decided to re assess my aspirations when looking at available cars vs condition & value for money.

In the end I plumped for a well known mint illiad with 40k on the clock.

As others have said condition is king!

Completely echo what Chris has just said above.

I like all the colours but I am a sucker for launch colours.

I suppose thats the colour I first see the car in so thats what stays in my mind.

Hence my choice of Illiad.

If you don't mind LHD (I prefer to RHD), you could look at Clios in the rest of the continent and have more where to choose from, however it would be harder to track the history of them.

I agree about the launch colours. At the moment are the most common, but in the long term might be the most iconic and desired?

Thanks for all the help, info and opinions so far.

Will be interesting to see if more cars come onto the market in the new year.

Grant, If you've been lusting and waiting for 10 years, then another few weeks or months to find exactly what you want has to be worthwhile.

I was very lucky when I put my 'requirements' on this forum, as within a couple of hours, I was pointed at a Liquid Yellow car with the right number of owners, the right mileage, and it was 28 miles away!

It was nearly twice the price I had anticipated to pay initially, but that was really because I didn't understand the market. I think that I was very lucky, and for sure many of these cars are 'keepers'.

I am genuinely bowled over by the car, and it has become another 'keeper' I'm now looking for a Ph1 to keep it company, but there's no hurry to secure one, and the hunt is fun.

Good luck with your quest, and try and get to have a go in one. You will REALLY want one when you hear what it's like inside on full acceleration!

Stunning car Mark, seems like you found an amazing example for a very competitive price.

I know it will be worth the wait when the right one appears.

Welcome aboard, and good luck with the search..............

I am sure you will get one that takes your fancy - you will know when you set your eyes on it.

I didn't have a strict preference for a particular colour, rather based my decision on condition and history, at least when looking for my first Vee, the two I have now are special., as they all are, and wouldn't change them in a hurry.

The hunt for one is as thrilling as acquiring and driving one, so enjoy the ride!
