V6 engine numbers

As the title really, I have a V6 Phase one at the moment undergoing some restoration and modifications.

Have also posted a thread on Cliosport,

I managed to aquire a very cheap V6 engine which is mint and only been run up on a bench.

Now my question is i know the engine that is currently in the car is a standard 230 one as supplied by TWR.(needs clutch and a few minor items)

But the new engine doesn't have any history,as it was never fitted in a car and this was, we think a TWR development engine.

The timing cover has two number plates on it, One is stuck on and is rectangular and has L7X 760 on,and underneath there is another plate star washered on and is an e-longated diamond shape with L7XG 720 engraved on it.

Does this mean that the stuck on plate is the standard Renault Engine type and Number.

And the e-longated one is the TWR revised plate, if so what engine am i likley to have?

Any help would be much appreciated.(have already mailed Scott at Sg )

Many thanks
Dave

If you take off the cam covers off the cams are etched with some numbers.

Check the manuals out for which cams you have as they are different between mk1 and mk2

other then that the engines are the same, its the inlet, cams that are different

did you get it from Steve or Tim

Mk1

Inlet: D = A718
Exhaust: D = E720

Mk2

Inlet: D = A865
Exhaust: D = E389

Does that mean if i remove the cams from my mark 1 and replace them with mark 2 ones - that i will basically have a mark 2 engine with the extra power etc - or is there a little bit more to it?

The mk 2 has a totaly different inlet manifold and larger throttle body plus a different ECU and the gearbox has different ratio's

So you are right there is a little bit more to it.

Hi Loud man,

Basically flow the heads, possible cams, throttle bodies, lighten Flywheel, re-map/chip full renew of suspension and brakes.

Had a look at the cams and are as follows : Inlet A422 Exhaust E389

So i am completley confused on what i have now [smilie=badpc.gif] any ideas ?

Your valued knowledge is awaited with gratefulness.

Cheers

It could be you have a very early engine that is just a standard V6 laguna lump you need to check there cam numbers with renault. I would also check the compression.
