Gulp! It’s near impossible job for the hobbiest - as the rear subframe needs to be uncoupled and the engine dropped.

Hence no ‘how to’ guide...

If you’re going to attempt it nonetheless - I’d PM Oldskoolbaby and/or Tannman for some direction.

Hey Mdss,

There are some posts on here from people who have done the job with the engine in situ. There seems to be an indication that there is sufficient room to get the job done. I've also seen some really informative videos on YouTube - search for Renault L7X or Peugeot es9 cambelt replacement. The relevant thing with these videos is that it's an in-situ, transverse engine cambelt change on what's effectively the same engine ( though the Peugeot has a slightly different belt tensioner). And, the Clio has more room to work in, by the looks of things!!

My advise would be to avoid tipex, non genuine parts, ill fitting cam and crank locking tools and anything that looks like it might break something. What I wouldn't avoid is the phone, satnav and contact details for SG Motorsport. Your life will be sooooooOOOooo much more stress free and your car will benefit from a reputable and highly well thought of stamp in its history book. You may save a couple of quid short term if you do it correctly but come the day you wish to sell it, that stamp will easily recoup it.
Please don't get me wrong, I don't mean to put you off the idea. I currently have two engines here including gearboxes under going full rebuilds so putting spanner to vee is very much my hobbie. However, I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than do a typical belt change on one of these. It's testament to Scotts work and know how as as to why he's so efficient at doing them.

Thanks for the advice guys I was just interested that's all. I wanted to see if anyone had attempted it.
To be honest the chances of me doing it was less than 10% it was more out of interest but you can be sure you have scared me sufficiently HAHA

thanks again chaps
