Urgent Advice please.....

After a closer examination of the wheels and tyres av taken off for alloy refurb and tyre change, i cant help but notice that there seems to be very little clearance for the new wider tyres...So can someone reassure me that it will be ok to fit them before they go all away tommorow for work to be carried out....fronts are 225/45/17 original 205/50/17 and the rears 255/40/17 original 235/45/17.... I had some sound advice from here that there should be no issues but i cant help but think that there not going to clear!!!! I feel sick.....alot of money spent here so am needing reassurance from you guys that all will be well...Who else is running the tyre combination on the MK1....Many thanks all Daryll.....

Shims?? Ok but will I need them to clear?? Am I just worrying about nothing......did bill have spacers on his?? Thanks Daz

Yes.. he did/has got spacers iirc. But whether they were needed for the size of the tyres I couldn't honestly answer.

I'm guessing Bill has Mk2 18s now so would need rear spacers to sort the offset.

Several cars have these sizes on Mk1 with no issues, no spacers......even lowered cars.

Thats right Tim, he has 18's on his car now.. but prior to that, also had spacers. I dont recall what size tyres he was running tho tbh.

DAZ.. If Tim gives the thumbs up.. you've nothing to worry about fella.. :thumb :D

Well I was hoping that Tim would reassure me about it all, just panicked a little when I could not feel much space between the spring and the original tyre size on there. Making me think that there is no way they are going to fit. But if it's been tried and tested by other members then brilliant. Panick over....looking forward now to getting them back now....

Put some sticky pads on the springs and see how many you can put on top of each other until the tyre scuffs become obvious.

I'm mad. :)
