Unable to engage any gear?

Muscle

New Member
Yesterday after changing down from 3rd to 2nd it was as if i'd put it in neutral. Its the same with any gear I put it in.

Clutch feels no different and with the engine cover off you can see a gear selector moving. with the car in gear and engine running you can hear a knocking noise when stood outside.

Has anyone else had this happen and /or know what the cause is?

Its a 255 with 24k on the clock.

Cheers!

Could be linkage inside gear box.

One of the shafts inside box.

Pinion shaft, would not think it is crown whell.

Might be worth draining oil and see what comes out. Metal particles, chuncks of teeth or nothing.

You must only refill with the Renault oil.

Oh dear.

No idea what it is, but having done a clutch and now some synchro's I feel your pain!

Hope its all covered by warranty! :D

Sounds like the same symptoms as when my diff went, clutch and gear stick felt the same, would go into get but would move he wheels.

Hope you get it sorted mate, and its not as serious as that.

Mine happened on 5k, resulted in a new box and driveshaft

Dennis,

Do you mean a gear box out put shaft or an actual drive shaft from gear box to wheels ?

Driveshaft to wheels.

Had a brand spanking new gearbox and where the diff had mangled the splines on the end of the Nearside driveshaft I had to have a new one of them to.

Cheers Chaps!

It went into Renault yesterday evening. The technician tells me today that he's positive its the cluth? - I'm not convinced. I'll see what they come up with...

Actually, that's what I was thinking it was – when they go in a big way the are like what you described.

This turned out to be an o-ring in the gearbox that had broke & jammed the diff.

I've been waiting on a new gearbox which they say needs to come from Italy, but has not arrived and they wont give me any info on how long it will be. Has anyone else needed their box replacing & how long did it take?

I recently got a new gearbox from Renault UK in 1 week.

Lucky I guess. :?

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Peter :D
