Tyres recommendations needed...

Col

New Member
Hi all,

As Michelin have stopped making the Front Tyres for the Mk 2 we was wondering what others are doing and if any one has any suggestions they would be much appreciated.

I've been searching for Michelin's for a couple of days now and have found them in America only. Which with shipping costs, time to ship aswell and the cost of them alone is not really a good plan. If we had time possibly might be though. Anyway we've found that only Bridgestone and Pireli do matching tyres for front and rear! Is anyone running with these at the moment or previsouly? How good are they? Has anyone mixed there Front and Rear tyres with different makes?

Thanks

Col & Deb

would american michelins be legal not sure they mark tyres differently and dont have a european conformity stamp on them like the CE mark thus making them illegal to use in the uk and a mot failiure
but it might have changed now i have some yank michelins for another car which are like this but there again it might have changed

wat about toyo proxxys dont they fit

I've checked reviews for Yokahomas, which are done in 205/40/18 but from what I've heard they aren't great in the wet, is this true?

I'm running Continental Sport Contact 2's, 215/40 on the front and standard size on the rear, I've found these tyres to be much better than the Michelin's in the wet, well recommended :D

Does it matter having different tyres on the front to the back? As my rears haven't long been on.

Generally it's not the done thing, however i've been running like this for ages - noticable on the track, not noticable on the road.

It's worse to run different left and right rather than front and back.

Can't remember what make Bill Patchell uses but they were great at Bruntingthorpe in the wet. He's gone a width up all round too.

Thanks for your advice everyone :thumb

Have decided to go for the Continental Sports in the end, seems to be pretty good reviews from what I've seen

I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed, and they are quite a bit cheaper than the Michelins [smilie=bunny_4.gif].Once you've had them fitted I'd be interested to hear what you think of them Deb

I'm sure Deb will post, but had the Continentals fitted now and she was saying they fill alot better than the michelins. Had them fitted at Ren-O-Tec in Chelmsford, Essex with a couple of other bits done. Will be using them again in th future! 8)
