TTV Flywheel for 240mm clutch

Wanted to get the Flywheel plus Ph1 clutch for cambelt service this year.
By hunting for parts i got an interesting email from a seller that says that there are two types of flywheels he could get from TTV.

Translated to english;

Dear Frank,

TTV has a 230mm flywheel in their programme but i don't know why it isn't listen on their website...???

As said before, there are 2 types:

- Clio V6 Typ CB1A mit 240mm clutch
- Clio V6 Typ CBH/U mit 230mm clutch

Anybody ever heard of a TTV Flywheel for a Ph2 with a 230mm clutch or even have one fitted?

Got the TTV Flywheel fitted on my Phase 2, with a Phase 1 clutch - highly recommended.

What are Model Types 'CB1A' and 'CBH/U'? Both of my Phase 2's are Type 'CB1U', one was manufactured in 2003 and the other in 2005.

CB1A is a Phase1.
CBH/U is just a typo...he meant CB1U/CB1H (CB1H is another story...)

TTV only lists the CB1A item (240mm clutch) on their website....the seller says he could also get a CB1U flywheel (230mm).

Never heard of a flywheel for the Ph2 CB1U clutch?
Somebody enlighten me [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Do you have any added cabin noise Lankan? Any downsides?
I really want to do this mod this winter as everybody that is driving this setup recommends it...TTV + clutch is also cheaper than the single DMF from Renault. No brainer.

When I was looking to have the TTV flywheel installed I was told that a Phase 1 clutch was required. Given that the Phase 1 clutch is supposedly stronger and more durable than the Phase 2 item I did not investigate further. If you need more details do speak to Scott (SG Motorsport), since Scott is an agent for TTV.

No additional cabin noise when on the go, none at all. Only noise is when pulling away or 'crawling' in traffic, which amounts to a distinctly audible scratching sound (metal against metal), but it is not intrusive at all. The noise is nothing like the lightweight flywheel that was the standard fitment in a Porsche 964 RS Lightweight, which is the noisiest I have experienced, but the engine response is absolutely electric. Although the TTV does not bring the same level of engine response to the Vee, the improvement over the standard dual mass item is a big plus, especially when rev matching on downshifts. :approve:

Clutch take up is quite on/off in that you need to hold the revs slightly higher to avoid stalling the engine, but that only happened to me the first time when I drove the Vee after having the TTV installed, so not a big issue.

Thanks for that little write up, lankan.
That scratching sound you described sounds a little odd.
As long as it doesn't sound like something is broken i can live with that i think?

Clutch take up is due to the soft (it was described like "water" in another thread) clutchpedal?
Coming from a 172 Ph1 i think that even the OEM Ph2 clutch is kinda soft compared to it.

So i need to get the 230mm version + ph1 clutch?

The scratching sound is a muted version of what steel wool on a saucepan sounds like, so it is very slight, and certainly does not sound like something has broken. I have had mine on for over a year now and no problems.

Not sure what you mean by a 'soft' clutch pedal, but not having driven a Phase 1 172, I am not able to compare, but yes, the Renaultsports I have driven, Phase 2 V6 and 182 Trophy, do have quite an easy clutch pedal (i.e. not hard to press), unlike the old school Porsches and Alfas I have had in the past or have at present.

I believe you need the 240mm version (CB1A):
"Design: Lite - For 240mm Clutch
Notes: OE 8200 122 042
Part No.: 1983"

This is why you would need the Phase 1 clutch, but do confirm this by contacting Scott Glander (http://www.renaultcliov6.com). He is an agent for TTV and installed the TTV and Clutch package in my Phase 2. Just realised that you are not UK based, which I failed to notice when I made the above post.

Thanks for the contact details Dulan.
I hope he answers my questions as i'm not a potential customer for him...(except for that ttv flywheel) ;)
Maybe he knows something about that 230mm clutch flywheel...seems to be pretty useless if the ph2 clutch can't take it?

When i get some answers i'll keep this thread updated.

No Problem Frank.

Scott will reply to your email, but may take a week or so as he is a bit snowed under with work right now.

Indeed, do keep the thread updated on how it goes.

Good luck with the install - you will not regret it.

Be keen to hear yours at Good Wood Dulan, especially around the pace of the RPM dropping off.

Sure thing Ali - not sure about how much one will be able to 'hear' change in revs since I will be changing the Orbisoud back box and de-catted collector with the standard items just in case they flout Goodwood's 98db noise limit - never driven my Vee without the Orbisoud so no idea what it will sound like........

Mail to Scott -> sent. :)

Meanwhile i've found this on the official TTV listings:

There seems to be a direct replacement for the standard DMF.
"Lite Dual-Mass-Replacement"
Interesting.

Excellent find :approve:

These must not have been available when I had mine fitted - definitely something to explore.

Do keep us posted.

No answer from Scott yet...

What's people's overall opinion on a weight reduced DMF?
Any experience with it on other cars?`

Regards

Seems like Scott is still to busy to answer my email... :tumble: [smilie=icon_cry.gif]

Anyway i'm now looking forward to get the Single-Mass-TTV Flywheel....just because there doesn't seem to be any experience with the weight reduced DMF.
And as long as nobody wants to convince me to do that, i'll be happy to do so.

But still:
If anybody got some infos about a weight-reduced DMF, please share it!
