HI guys

Plain and simply i really want to get hold of a trophy manifold setup for the vee, thinking about designing one myself but was wondering if anyone knew where abouts i could find one?

just being nosey, why, do you think there is much merit in fitting this alone or are you going for this as part of a package of other mods? am thinking of a few mods myself but still looking for the inspiration.

I want to do a few bits that arnt over the top, i want to keep the car very clean and looking mostly stock so the twin manifolds will still sit under the engine cover (I hope) the gains might not be outstanding but better flow to the cylinders and increased throttle response will be enough for me. To be honest looking at the standard inlet makes me feel a little sick, its just wrong. I dont know about you guys, but i feel like the engine has got so much more to give, and when driving it i kinda feel like the engine is trying but it is being resitricted and looking at the inlet manifold i can see room for improvement

Was just having a think about the work that is involved, oviously two throttle bodies need to be wired and new sensors etc, has anyone ever fitted the manfold to there vee?

Q. Will the std ecu run twin throttle bodies? someone must know, also i did recall a post regarding spacers to lift the lid of the plenum, did anybody do this? it looks to me like the runners are too small std so is the tropy manifold blessed with larger runners?
i await with interest!

These don't directly fit onto our top ends fella. They suit the pre VVC engine much better. I'm currently in the process of fitting the trophy inlet to an early v6. Initial problems are getting two throttle bodies working together using the OEM ecu. However, I reckon fabricating a pipe that merges into one would work fine with a ph2 throttle pot. I'm sure there are clever auto electicians that would over come it though. I'm switching to a non fly by wire type so to keep it nice and simple.

I think the real question is, is it really worth it? To a nice ph2 like you have anyway. I reckon full tublar exhaust manifolds will be much more beneficial.

Its a hellava job for little gain and I doubt it will fit under the cover.

It looks good - but you can't see it under a cover.

You'd spend less on decatting and a piggyback ECU with much better results and driveability.

My memory is fading but your going from a 72mm(?) throttle body to 2 x 62mm(?) throttle bodies - someone will do the maths but the flow gain is huge which is fine at big velocities but at low throttle openings its pants.

Race car yea, road car, non.

Just my two penneth

well i have found a manifold, think i am just going to have a crack at it, if not i will just get one of the fellas at work to finish it off :race:

I'll echo what others have said and this is based on direct experience;

1) It's not a direct fit you need an adapter plate to allow you to both fit it and cope with the transition in port shapes

2) It will foul the oil filler so you will need to move the oil filling point (redesign lower rear cam cover)?

3) It will foul the existing fuel injection parts IIRC

4) You may get 2 FBW to work with the OEM unit by using a mech linkage from one to the other (so run a non FBW on one side) but it's not trivial

5) There's no way it's going fit under the existing covers

Apart from that it's about a 3 hour job :-)

The other thing worth bearing in mind, which MikeT alluded to, is it's a "race" part - you may end up with something which is a pig to map for driveability, only develops torque when sat 7.5k or drinks fuel like a Hummer.

Now having said all that it does look very nice, is much better designed than either of the production efforts and if you can throw enough money and time at it you should net some genuine gains.

Sod the different port shapes!!!! Weld it on, throw the ecu away, stick a nice HIF44 SU carb from an MG Metro turbo on each side, plus a pair of T3 turbo's.....job done!!........good for 400 brake [smilie=icon_cheers.gif] oldskool

Only joking!

Best of luck with it fella.

I had a similar impression. The std engine seems strangled. It never really comes on cam and really GOES!

Gas flowed std inlet plenum and a new map have helped my car. No much in the top end but mid range seems stronger. Full decats and manifolds can't have hurt either.

With OEM cams and VVC most engines will struggle to feel really peeky and much faster. Like you say Pete, the biggest bolt on gain for a ph2 is definately the full decat route.

As for the Trophy inlet conversion there maybe another little problem that make the whole venture pointless. Yes, the twin plenum setup offers better results up the rev range than the ph2 inlet BUT, the adaptor that is needed to go from one shape to another may be very restrictive and completly ruin flow into the heads. I was recently looking at having the adaptor made on one of the very latest cnc machines but reckon its the wrong way to go. Instead, I'm now looking for either an original Trophy fuel rail etc or make my own with the injectors fitted to the manifold just after the plenumns. I'll post a pic to show shortly.

just super charge it thats the route i will be taking will cost a mint but you only live once messing with trophy wont give you what you want theres me tim tim tim and several others that have all kinds of mods done so work out what you want to go for the talk to us all and we will save you a lot of money and time and stress stress stress and if not then do it your own way and will look forward to reading your ongoing threads

If my car goes anywhere near as well the Trophy I went out in over France I can assure you I wouldn't be dissapointed. Supercharging is definatly a good route Ray.....have only seen one owner do it so far though and I'm not sure if that was succesful or not. In my opinion, you can't beat the bang for buck advantages of a well built, well thought of simple turbo engine.
