Tracker Advise Please

I'm having problems getting the tracker set up, no one seems to be able to tell me what I need to do.

Have only just purchased the car, and the previous owner hasn't registered it. Can I still activate it now??

I rang Tracker, they told me there is no record of it on their systems. I said I don't think it has been registered before and they said there's nothing they can do in that case. They asked about an 11 digit code somewhere hidden in the car and without that they cant set it up.

They want £100 for one of their technicians to come out and tell me this number - but if it's never been registered will it even be there??

I spoke to Renault to see if they could help, they didn't have a clue. Told me to ask the police :S Not sure what a policeman would be able to do, but correct me if I'm wrong!

So anyway is it too late now to have the tracker fitted or not as I'm confused with how it works...

when i enquired about mine i just gave them the registration number.
when the car was new the tracker would have been activated.
have you got a private plate on the car which isn`t showing on their records.
trackers were only fitted as standard to uk numbered cars.

Well that's what I thought, but they're saying they have no record of the numberplate, but surely it's activated when new anyway?? The girl on the phone didn't seem to understand this though!
Never had private plate on the car and it's a uk model.

Suggs I'm pretty sure I have all the paperwork for it but there's onlythe phone numbers and some paperwork that needs to be filled out and given to the technicians that fit it.

This is a copy of a letter I have that may be of use if you dont have it:-

TO ALL RENAULT DEALERS

This envelope contains important information and documentation relating to the Trackstar system fitted to this vehicle.

Firstly, please check the contents of this pack to ensure that you have received:
• 1 Plastic Wallet (Customer Pack) consisting of:
a. 1 introductory Letter
b. 1 Trackstar Pre-paid Envelope
c. 1 Lifetime Offer
d. 1 User guide
• 1 Trackstar Pre-Paid envelope
• 1 Installation Check sheet

Secondly, the following procedure MUST be followed to ensure that the Trackstar system is activated prior to this vehicle being delivered to the customer.

1. The SIM Number, VIN Number and Installer details must be added to the Customer Subscription form. This information is recorded on the Installation Check Sheet.
2. Using the Pre-Paid envelope (not from the Customer Pack), return the Subscription form and a copy of the installation sheet so that the customer details can be added to the Trackstar Database. Note – Until this is received, the Motion Sensor will not be active.3. Insert the customers’ Copy of the subscription Agreement into the Customer Pack.
4. At Vehicle Hand-over, ensure that the contents of the Customer Pack are explained to the customer.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your local Trackstar representative, or alternatively contact the support team on 0808 1009991.

Thank you for your co-operation.

As far as I'm aware, all the UK cars will have the tracker fitted. That does not mean that they were all registered.

You should be able to ring Trackstar up with the VIN code and Sim code to get the car registered (assuming this has never been done before)

I think you have to pay the £100 to register the car whether you have a technician out or not. If the car has been registered before then I think you just have to pay the normal subscription charge and thats it. (£10 per month I think)

I may be wrong, but thats my interpretation!!

The 11 digit code is the SIM number I think. Should be on the envelope that contains all the info (is on mine anyway)

I dont have the SIM number on any of the documents. I can pay £100 for one of the technicians to come out and tell me, but then £100 again to actually fit it.

Suggs I don't seem to have that letter you've copied up so thanks. I'll try calling them again on tuesday and see if I can get any further.

How many people have their trackers activated?

Does it only cost £10.00 per month to activate it?

I don't think you can do it monthly. I believe it's £132 for an annual subscription or £337 for the lifetime subscription.

When I got mine I just phoned up and gave the reg plate, though the previous owner did have it activated

The trackers on Vee were never ACTIVATED from new by Renault! It was down to the individual if he / she wanted it activated (and paid the premium to do so).

But Deb, as it has already been stated, your car WILL have a tracker fitted if it is a UK car.

PM Fred, he seems to know where they are hidden, then you can have a look at the unit and get the serial / sim number off of it. Jobs a good 'un and saved you £100.

Regards, Steve.

Go halves with ya Steve

No I'm just going to have to pay the £100 for someone to come out I think [smilie=icon_cry.gif]

No one seems to know, or want to say, where the tracker is hidden. I wanna do mine too but also don't have the paperwork. If anyone knows, please do PM me :D

Dan

Dan & Deb - did either of you try / manage to contact Fred?

If not let me know, i'll give him a bell and try and find out the info for you.

Regards, Steve.

Dan pm'd him but he wouldn't give him the info, I haven't bothered as he'll say the same to me most probably.
