Toyo R888s...

Anyone tried these on a Vee?

Are they the worst idea I've ever had for road use? I'm not gonna lie, I am slightly swayed by how damn cool they look hehe :) Even in the wet, will they actually be much worse than my pretty worn 'Nexan' rear tyres are now...?

Dan

I use them, they'll be risky with water on the road but I drive like a granny then anyway. They're great on dry roads.

They are excellent tyres (we use them on the higher end track kit on the fleet) but as Tim suggested in the wet they can be a "challenge". In the dry they're pretty much untouchable this side of a slick but be warned that in addition to the issue with wet weather they will wear faster than you may be used to.

The other thing to be mindful of is that you will be going quicker when/if the grip runs out and that may be an issue if it's on a road rather than a track.

If it's a looks driven decision then get them and drive slowly in the wet, if you're looking for more grip and good road/track performance consider their T1R range.

It wasn't solely a looks driven decision - I was just browsing eBay and thought "They look cool" :) Some extra grip for the rear would be handy sometimes is all - but then like you said about 'raising the bar' so to speak speed wise is definately worth thinking about....

I'm due new rear tyres soon anyway - and was going the Goodyear F1 or Toyo T1-R route originally.

Thanks for the input guys - much to consider...

Goodyear F1 GSD3 or Toyo Proxy T1R - excellent choices :-)

The Toyo has a harder shoulder so takes a bit more hammering and feathers less on the outer edge but their price-point is approaching that now of the Goodyear so they are not so much of a bargain as they were 2 or 3 years ago.

Goodyears are so progressive in their traction and breaking point I was staggered by them when I them on my Toyota, good wet handling too.

All my opinions of course cause tyres are a personal choice and I haven't tried em on the Vee but my Vee has Continental Sport Contact 2's all round and they seem fine though the Onion doesn't really go out in the wet [smilie=hide.gif]

I've got Dunlop SP9090's right now and had Toyo's T1R's before and i'd say the Toyo's were slightly grippier in the wet and dry but not by much at all. Both tyres are very similar tread patterns tho, but I think the Dunlops have a soft wall that makes up for the less grip from the tread and compound.

I only got them as I got 7 part worn 235/45's for £80 so now I have a stash of them to last me :D
